About This Role

This position is the link between police officers and dispatch. The position answers the phone, assists customers and then relays appropriate information to the officer in the field utilizing police band radio and additional law enforcement-designated communication systems.

Worksite Description

This position is On-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.


What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Requires a high school diploma, and the following credentials: Hearing must be correctable to a range that will allow normal radio and telephone conversation with field units, vision must be correctable to a range that will allow reading of computer display terminals, maps and printouts quickly and accurately and applicants must be free of felony convictions.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Prior first responder (law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical services) dispatching experience is preferred.
  • Ability to handle high pressure and stressful situations which will require the employee to make rapid independent decisions.
  • Ability to write effectively, read and comprehend critical information, and have above average communication skills.
  • Prior Public Relations experience preferred due to the high volume of public interaction.
  • 24 hours of college credit.
  • Possess strong computer skills to work in a paperless environment.
  • Able to pass NCIC test for certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Maintain NCIC Certification with a minimum score of 85% on the test.
  • Complete KSUPD Training Program with a minimum 85% on the final review.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be free of felony convictions and submit to a thorough background investigation annually.


Additional Role Information:



  • Able to pass NCIC test for certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Must maintain NCIC certification with a minimum score of 85% on NCIC test.


Sponsorship eligibility:

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.
