Posting Summary
This position involved research and development work on a carbon dot technology. The work requires knowledge of materials synthesis, polymer and carbon material properties, materials analysis, and characterization. Additionally, assistance in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, writing project reports, and dissemination of the R&D results via papers and presentations is part of the role.

1.
Research and development- Assisting in the development of a new carbon dot technology to convert plastic crystalline materials using carbon dot intermediates. Duties will include materials synthesis, polymer and carbon materials processing and characterization, optimization of process yield and increasing process volume, and investigating the detailed mechanisms behind each process step.

Percentage Of Time- 20%
2.
Dissemination of research results- Duties will include writing of research reports and dissemination of research results and activities to TechAdvance and industry partners. The postdoc will be expected to publish the research in peer-reviewed journals and present the research results and progress at weekly meetings.

3. Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students- Duties will include training and oversight of undergraduate and graduate students in carbon dot synthesis, materials characterization, research design and troubleshooting, and technical writing.

Minimum Education and Experience
PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or related fields.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with polymer and carbon nanomaterials synthesis, processing, and characterization. Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
Equipment Utilized
Familiarity with X-ray diffration, FTIR and optical spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and phase diagram modelling is required.
