As a strategic Principal IS Architect at Providence Health Plans, you'll be the driving force behind architectural vision and execution. You'll serve as the go-to expert for end-to-end solutions-spanning software, hardware, integration, and data-while shaping roadmaps, standards, and governance that align with business goals. Your role will influence enterprise strategy, guide technology evaluations, and ensure compliance with industry standards. From leading cross-functional planning and design initiatives to communicating complex technical concepts in clear, actionable terms, you'll empower teams to deliver innovative solutions that fuel growth, enhance consumer experiences, and keep PHP at the forefront of healthcare technology.

What You Will Be Responsible For:



  • Serve as the primary point of contact for questions related to Providence Health Plans' end-to-end needs, including software, hardware, integration, and data
  • Provide architectural leadership for projects and guide strategic technology decisions
  • Lead efforts to structure and deliver comprehensive documentation of PHP IS strategy and direction, enabling growth, compliance, financial objectives, and exceptional consumer experiences
  • Define and communicate technical vision, roadmaps, standards, and guidelines aligned with organizational strategy
  • Set strategic priorities and ensure alignment across initiatives
  • Identify, prioritize, and resolve architectural issues
  • Assist with technology evaluations and provide guidance on IS policies and standards
  • Share knowledge, foster collaboration, and influence best practices across teams
  • Present proposals and updates to IS and PHP governing councils
  • Maintain strong relationships and networks to ensure cross-Providence coverage for PHP
  • Engage with PHP leaders, subject matter experts, partners, and the broader healthcare industry to influence and align strategies
  • Consult, review, and facilitate knowledge management using IS tools and processes
  • Collaborate with business teams to understand and shape requirements
  • Demonstrate awareness of cross-functional and cross-domain impacts
  • Stay current on emerging technologies, products, and trends relevant to architectural solutions
  • Ensure solutions align with business and IT goals and objectives
  • Assess the scope and impact of business changes on systems
  • Lead or participate in identifying solution options and features, and communicate these to stakeholders through architecture reviews.
  • Incorporate software and system architecture (infrastructure, network) into conceptual designs
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise technology standards, including solution patterns, application frameworks, technology roadmaps, and capital plans
  • Identify gaps between standards and proposed solutions, and manage exceptions or waivers as needed
  • Maintain awareness of current technology assets and their capabilities
  • Adhere to and enforce the architecture governance framework


Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems
  • 8 or more years of experience in engineering or business systems analysis
  • Experience supporting more than one business process / area
  • 8 or more years of full life cycle application development experience
  • 6 or more years of experience building multi-tier applications
  • Enterprise Scaled Agile Development Experience


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems
  • Certification from the appropriate standards body
  • Healthcare Industry Experience
  • Team leadership or team management experience
  • Experience prototyping and performance tuning applications deployed across multiple operating systems, languages and computing platforms
  • Cloud development and deployment experience
  • Possesses deep expertise in industry-standard patterns for application architecture and integration.
  • Provides thorough reviews of others' work and offers actionable recommendations for improvement.
  • Develops innovative approaches to complex challenges and is consistently sought out as a subject matter expert.
  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence, integrity, and strong leadership qualities, serving as a mentor to peers.
  • Anticipates customer needs and proactively designs solutions to meet evolving requirements.
  • Acts as a key resource for resolving complex and critical issues, delivering strategic insights and guidance.
  • Excels in solving intricate problems and performing advanced conceptual analyses.
  • Forecasts and plans resource requirements effectively, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Authorizes deviations from established standards when necessary and manages governance processes.
  • Leads functional or segment teams and drives projects to successful completion.
  • Communicates complex issues clearly, providing explanations and guidance to stakeholders at all levels.
