Accounting Supervisor

General Purpose:

Supervise staff who perform accounting duties in support of daily, monthly, and yearly accounting activities. This may include a mix of general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, route settlement, producer payroll, or similar accounting-related activities. Oversee daily accounting operations which includes coding invoices and compilation of data for various accounting reports. Ensure accurate accounting processing and records. Serve as an escalation point for the team and internal/external customers.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Oversee and coordinate activities of one or more accounting areas such as general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, route settlement, producer payroll, or similar, to ensure accurate and timely recording and reporting of all financial results
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and complete transactions or records, including ledgers, journals, invoices, receipts, and information related to supplies and inventory; reconcile or note and report any differences found in the records
  • Assist the Accounting Manager with accounting close processes, preparing budgets or forecasts, reconciling discrepancies, performing audits, or creating financial statements and reports
  • Oversee preparation of accounts and reports for management, including balance sheets and income statements
  • Communicate with internal and external customers to discuss account statuses, charges, or discrepancies; utilize other team members as needed to resolve
  • Work with vendors and suppliers to ensure charges are accurate and that payments are received in a timely manner
  • Lead accounting initiatives and provide support, training, and resources as needed
  • Make improvements to increase productivity and workflow of processes. Review suggestions or feedback from internal or external customers and negotiate appropriate solutions. Document, test, and implement process changes
  • Work with direct reports as a coach and partner to effectively manage their performance. Conduct formal performance conversations and hold direct reports accountable for results; work with them to cultivate their capabilities and utilize their strengths
  • Perform supervisory duties such as work delegation and review, time keeping, new hire onboarding, and training

Education and Experience:



  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • 2 to 5 years of accounting work experience coupled with demonstrated leadership attributes or team lead experience
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Certification and/or License - may be required during course of employment


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Knowledge of general accounting concepts and practices
  • Knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, training, and personnel management
  • Able to select, guide, develop, coach and retain a team of employees; able to promote a team environment
  • Able to adapt to changing operational needs
  • Able to work collaboratively with others, management levels within the company, and external stakeholders
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
