Performs work to assist in the organization and implementation of projects and programs. Responsibilities include activities which require knowledge of departmental procedures. Employee performance is based upon a review of completed work and overall results obtained.

About the Department and/or College

The Museum is committed to serving our diverse community, through a range of exhibitions and public programming.

Major/Essential Functions

This internship program provides practical training and experience in museum and heritage standards and best practices for American Association of Museums accredited large university museum. Interns participate in all aspects of museum or heritage activities associated within the assigned division, such as collections, administration, exhibits, and education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ability to work within a collaborative environment, both with museum staff, students and outside partners. Must be able to lift 30 lbs. Must be willing to learn how and use general construction power tools. Coursework within a field of study in which their skills can translate into an exhibition development setting that includes collaboration, assistance with conceptualization, design, installation and maintenance.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent. No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum one year of completed coursework in Museum Science and Heritage Management or equivalent coursework in other fields, such as Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Education. Working knowledge of essential computer software: Microsoft Word, Abode suite. Knowledge of CAD programs is preferred but not essential. The Exhibits Division is fast-paced and deadline driven. The ability to manage time effectively is essential. The Division works in partnership with a range of disciplines across hard sciences and fine art. A willingness to engage with a variety of subject matters and disciplines is essential.
