This Protective & Marine Scientist position is responsible for completion of Development and Commercialization activities for the United States and Canada. Development and Commercialization projects would involve various chemistries but not limited to epoxies, urethanes, alkyds, zinc rich coatings, etc.

The Scientist position is accountable for providing timely and accurate solutions to multiple company problems of high complexity. Primary responsibilities include leading and supporting chemical resistant atmospheric coatings development projects across a wide range of areas within all P&M Market Segments including Oil and Gas, Alternative Energy, Food and Beverage, Marine, Rail and Water Wastewater.

Additional responsibilities include collaborating with the P&M technical team to support projects in the areas of color development, quality support for current product lines, continuous improvement initiatives, technology transfers, and raw material support. Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company's staff, employees, and business relationships.

* Designs and executes experiments, draws conclusions, and makes recommendations.
* Maintains accurate and detailed documentation of lab work and providing written updates and presentation of complex technical materials.
* Communicates with other departments/functions and develops a wide network of resources.
* Functions under limited supervision and be able to design experiments with support and write reports with limited review.
* Accountable for contributing solutions to moderate to highly complex projects.
* Lead multiple highly technically complex projects at one time.
* Recognized as a key technical resource in at least one area.
* Communicates detailed ideas concisely through written technical reports.
* Complies with and displays knowledge of all safety and security regulations and maintains a clean work area.
* Maintains interactions with vendors and research institutions, SW marketing, and various service groups to ensure successful R&D efforts on new/improved products.
* Travel for technical conferences, product commercialization and customer support.
* Trains or mentors new or less experienced chemists and technicians.
* Always adhere to company safety standards.
* Adheres to quality standards in accordance with the Global Business Management System.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
* Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
* Must be at least 18 years of age.
* At least 8 years of industrial coatings experience.
* Familiarity with application and troubleshooting of industrial coatings.
* Practical understanding of spectral measurement data.
* Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis.
* Analytical chemistry and the ability to extend it beyond the realm of coatings.
* Proven problem-solving and decision-making ability.
* Experience with Design of Experiment or Minitab
* DFSS or equivalent

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* 8-10 years epoxy, polyurethane, or other organic/inorganic coating experience
* Proficient in statistics and data analysis.
* Experience in organic/inorganic coatings technology.

Travel Requirements: 10%

This position is not eligible for sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, including conversion to H-1B visa.

Successful candidate will be required to sign an Employee Restrictive Covenant Agreement where permitted by law.
