DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, performs a variety of work duties which requires specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within business and professions code of the State of California and/or the regulations The Joint Commission (TJC). These duties also include but are not limited to: environmental care functions, equipment/supply management and cleaning/disinfecting the environment. Incumbents may also provide front office services on a routine or back-up basis, including scheduling and management of referral work queues. The Medical Assistant Specialist performs additional clinical responsibilities in specialized health fields and utilizes additional certification and/or training to support procedures, technical functions, or other higher-level specialist duties as required. Performs other applicable Specialist duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of Medical Assistant experience..

  • UCSD Infection Prevention and Clinical Epidemiology Training on Scopes.

  • Experience with answering phones, patient questions, making appointments, and coordinating care.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, on-line scheduling, universal precautions and proper use of body mechanics.

  • Requires initiative, the ability to prioritize demands and the ability to work in a teamenvironment.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous Urology ambulatory experience.

  • Experienced in medical supply procurement and inventory management.

  • Demonstrated ability to train and support new team members, ensuring understanding of procedures, workflows, systems, and patient care standards.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various locations based on business needs.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $60,239 - $75,001 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.85 - $35.92

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
