PAY RATE: $55,000/ANNUALLY

Potential Remote locations: Richmond, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Albany, Columbus

Job Summary:

The Environmental Scientist II is responsible for performing complex environmental reports and plans, fieldwork, and other regulatory compliance tasks. This mid-level role supports environmental permitting, reporting, and ongoing compliance. The position requires a strong understanding of environmental regulations and the ability to manage projects with moderate supervision. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on balancing technical environmental compliance work with proactive client and project management responsibilities. The successful candidate will oversee projects from planning through delivery, ensuring regulatory compliance, technical accuracy, and exceptional client service for our clients.

Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Assist with environmental permitting and reporting (e.g., stormwater, air emissions, SPCC, SWPPP).
  • Support environmental permitting activities across various sectors (e.g., Chemical processing, infrastructure, manufacturing, pulp and paper) in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Prepare, review, and submit environmental permit applications, including air, water, and waste permits.
  • Interpret and apply environmental regulations from EPA, state agencies, and local authorities
  • Monitor compliance with environmental regulations such as Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, and others as applicable.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders to ensure timely approvals and effective implementation of mitigation measures.
  • Conduct field inspections and support data collection for ongoing compliance tracking.
  • Maintain documentation and records for audits and inspections, support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Stay current on environmental regulations and industry best practices to proactively manage risk.


Required Skills/Abilities:



  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
  • Strong technical writing and data interpretation skills
  • Knowledge of environmental laws and regulatory frameworks
  • Sampling techniques and use of field instrumentation (e.g., PID, water quality meters) preferred but not required
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing and client correspondence.
  • Project management and time management skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Professionalism and sound judgment in regulatory and stakeholder interactions
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through.


Education and Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of relevant experience in environmental science or consulting.


Physical Requirements:



  • Frequent walking, standing, and bending during fieldwork
  • Ability to sit at a desk for long periods of time
  • Capable of wearing PPE
  • Tolerance to work in various weather conditions and terrains
  • Approximately 20% fieldwork and travel, 80% office or remote work depending on project needs
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions and environmental hazards
  • Travel required to project sites, sometimes overnight (up to 20%)
