North State Bank has an exciting opportunity for a Financial Accountant in our Finance Department. This position supports financial accounting processes and decision making by inputting- collecting, analyzing, investigating and reporting general corporate and mortgage-related financial data. It's ideal for an experienced accountant with a risk-management mindset who holds or is in the process of earning a CPA designation. This position is best suited for someone who is self-motivated and comfortable with a deadline-sensitive environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assists with the month end close process as well as recording journal entries
  • Assists with the financial reporting and analysis functions as well as participating in technical accounting research
  • Assists with implementing and monitoring internal controls within the finance department.
  • Assists with managing the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of the mortgage database in MS Access as well as verifying and entering daily mortgage closings and fundings, ensuring that both outgoing and incoming wires are accurate.
  • Understands and prepares daily and monthly reconciliations with a risk-management mindset
  • Trains with Accounts Payable process to become back-up person for A/P runs.
  • Assists with reviewing the daily reconciliation of loans held for sale (HFS)
  • Handles appraisal payment processes, downloads appraisal invoices, posts mortgage payments accurately in the system of record.
  • Learns GAAP, FHA, and HUD reporting and audit responsibilities and assists with preparing information for internal and external audits.
  • Assists with monitoring liquidity and funds management as well as facilitating debt payments in a timely manner.
  • Assists with the purchase, sale, and pledging of investment securities.
  • Assists with annual summary of deposits and property tax listings.
  • Assists with monthly sales and use tax to NCDOR for the leasing department and out of state invoices where no NC tax was withheld.
  • Stays abreast of current compliance, regulatory, and GAAP issues impacting the banking and mortgage industries.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Includes education, certifications, experience, etc.):
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPA or in process of obtaining CPA license preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of public accounting firm experience (or recent graduate of Master in Accounting program in lieu of public accounting experience), or four years of related accounting experience, preferably in a financial institution.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), advanced math and accounting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Access.
