Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $33.84 to $37.38/hour. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full hourly range for this position is $31.47 to $55.12/hour.

Work Location: Embarcadero Hall - 1111

Working Days and Hours: Monday-Friday; 8 hrs/day, variable within 8am - 11pm. Some weekends required.

Department Marketing Statement:

Academic Affairs Information Technology (AAIT), including Instructional Development, supports the university's academic and instructional mission by providing unified and consistent technology services to General Assignment classrooms and computer labs. It deploys key educational tools as well as comprehensive services for event audio-visual presentations and video production needs. AAIT also supports technology needs for senior campus leadership, Academic Affairs offices, the Academic Senate, and Academic Personnel services. It works with other IT offices and units on campus to ensure that faculty, staff, and students have access to innovative and reliable services aligned with campus priorities.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:

Acts as Manager of Isla Vista (IV) Theaters and Embarcadero Hall, directs all preparation, execution and administrative duties for events and instruction in IV Theaters and Embarcadero Hall. Responsible for all operations of IV Theaters and Embarcadero Hall, including instructional support, venue scheduling, student staff hiring and training, and event billing. Supervises the Public Events Manager who assists in daily operations of IV Theaters and Embarcadero Hall. Consults with clients concerning all elements of instructional and event support. Manages all theatrical equipment including training users, maintenance and repair. Occasionally called upon to provide support for other campus events as requested by the Director of Instructional Support.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area or equivalent experience

  • 1-3 years related experience
  • Experience communicating effectively with customers, volunteers, and co-workers
  • Evidence of strong organizational and time management skills
  • Capable of performing physical tasks, including lifting, carrying, and pushing objects as required

  • Proven strong customer service skills
  • Evidence of strong problem-solving skills by recognizing, addressing, and resolving issues proactively
  • Experience in planning, reviewing, supervising, and inspecting the work of others

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

Supervisory & Administration (40%): Directly supervises the Public Events Manager in charge of IV Theater's and Embarcadero Hall's daily operations. Conducts annual performance review of Public Events Manager. Annually reviews and suggests revisions to the Public Events Manager job description to the Director of Instructional Support. Collaborates with the Public Events Manager to supervise the hiring, training, and supervision of student staff for instructional and event support. Collaborates with the Public Events Manager to coordinate appropriate staffing for event support. Monitors facility conditions and submits requests to facilities as necessary. Ensures that clients and staff adhere to procedures designed to maintain university facilities in good condition. Maintains calendar of events for IV Theaters and Embarcadero Hall for classes and events. Supervises and assists in the operation and maintenance of specialized audio, video, and lighting systems. Trains students and full time staff in the operation of systems. Supervises the development and updating of IV Theaters and Embarcadero Hall's Operations manual. Creates IV Theaters and Embarcadero Hall specific manuals for A/V equipment, and opening/closing procedures.

Technical Operations (35%): Manager of Isla Vista Theater and Embarcadero for all events and instruction. Meets with Instructors to consult on technical needs for classes. Troubleshoots instructional equipment as necessary. Acts as the primary technical liaison for student run, instructional and departmental events. Interfaces with instructors and campus clients to ensure classes and events are supported. Coordinates with the Public Events Manager to advance shows, coordinate load-ins, rehearsals, performances, and strike of events. Analyzes and modifies client's technical needs. Creates lighting and sound designs, and trains students to do so, as required. Creates estimates and submits invoices based on events. Assesses equipment maintenance needs and submits requests to Director of Instructional Support.

Consultation & System Designs (15%): Instructs clients in the use of A/V and computer equipment. Consults with departments, committees, and clients regarding staffing and equipment needs for special events in IV Theaters and Embarcadero Hall. Consults with clients to prepare cost estimates and budgetary alternatives. Works with clients to ascertain computer and A/V needs and recommends systems for their use. Provides feedback to Director of Instructional Support regarding equipment upgrades.

Inventory & Allocation (10%): Approves, recommends, and initiates equipment purchases in consultation with the Director of Instructional Support to ensure consistency with the rest of the technology deployed to General Assignment Classrooms across campus. Allocates equipment, staffing, and facility resources to ensure smooth and efficient operation and full support for instructors and clients using the facilities. Maintains maintenance and repair schedules. Keeps abreast of current trends in audio-visual, cinema, and computer technology.
