Position Description

The IMSE department invites applications for a full-time, 9-month senior position at the rank of associate professor or professor to begin in Fall 2026. The department is seeking applicants with expertise in automation and robotics, and research and teaching interests in areas including, but not limited to, advanced manufacturing technologies, human-AI-robot teaming, and mechanical simulation.
Candidates must have a terminal degree in industrial engineering or closely related field. Candidates who have a strong record of scholarship and who have the proven capability to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech University are encouraged to apply. Service to the department, college, and university is expected. Service duties include program-building, as well as commitment to extra-curricular activities. Applicants should be eligible to work in the United States.

About the College

The Whitacre College of Engineering (WCOE, https://www.depts.ttu.edu/coe/) serves approximately 5100 undergraduate and 1050 graduate students, supported by 224 faculty and instructors. The college had 856 BS, 580 MS and 84 PhD graduates in the 2024-25 fiscal year. All incoming first year students are enrolled into a common foundational curriculum for all undergraduate programs. Foundational students declare a program of choice and can move into upper division after completing the foundational classes with a TTU GPA of minimum of 2.5 TTU GPA or higher. The WCOE consists of the Departments of Chemical Engineering; Civil, Environmental and Construction Engineering; Computer Science; Electrical & Computer Engineering; Industrial, Manufacturing and Systems Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; and Petroleum Engineering. All BS programs and the Environmental Engineering Master's program are ABET accredited. All departments have Master's and PhD programs. Annual research expenditures at the college are around $18M.

About the Department/School/Area

The Industrial, Manufacturing and Systems Engineering (IMSE) department has a dynamic faculty who are actively funded by NSF, DOD, NIST and other federal agencies. Faculty members have won prestigious prizes, including the INFORMS Optimization Society Young Researchers Prize and INFORMS Computing Society Harvey J. Greenberg Research Award. There is a vibrant and energetic research atmosphere both within the IMSE department and across departments in the WCOE, University, and the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. The IMSE department actively supports the WCOE research thrust areas of Energy, Water, Engineers in Medicine, Infrastructure, Nanotechnology and Big Data/Data Visualization and the CASFER NSF Engineering Research Center. The IMSE department has numerous laboratory facilities (manufacturing, bioprinting and biofabrication, tissue assembly and nanofabrication, complex systems modeling, control, and optimization, and ergonomics) and is home to a multidisciplinary safety center (http://www.depts.ttu.edu/cehrop/). Faculty Qualifications


  • A terminal degree (Ph.D.) in industrial engineering or closely related field.
  • Expertise in current practice/pedagogy/theory in automation and robotics as evidenced by provision of research statement, teaching statement, and/or samples of written scholarship.
This position is designated as involving access to critical infrastructure systems and/or research, as defined by Texas Executive Order GA-48. As such, candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to employment. Employees are required to comply with all applicable state and federal regulations related to the protection of critical infrastructure. Ongoing employment is dependent upon maintaining eligibility for access and successfully passing periodic security and compliance reviews.

Preferred Qualifications


  • A record of high-impact, peer-reviewed publications and external funding.
  • 5+ years of teaching experience at the university level, including undergraduate and/or graduate courses taught as faculty member.
  • Evidence of sustained involvement (over 5 years) in institutional service such as student recruitment activities, curricular and/or program-development activities, leadership of extra-curricular activities and programs.
