Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The mission of the School of Nursing is to enhance and improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina and the nation, and, as relevant and appropriate, the people of other nations, through its programs of education, research, and scholarship, and through clinical practice and community service. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Position Summary |
This Clinical Research Specialist supports research, project, and grants management for Dr. Tamryn Fowler Gray, PhD, RN,
MPH, Assistant Professor in the
UNC School of Nursing and Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center member. Dr. Gray's program focuses on caregiver and psychosocial needs, dyadic adaptation, coping, and functional outcomes during serious illness transitions. She leads patient- and family-centered outcomes research and community-engaged scholarship to develop scalable interventions that enhance coping, strengthen relationship resilience, and support safe recovery at home.
The Specialist manages daily research operations,
IRB applications, adherence to protocols, and quality control; tracks and reports activities; and oversees budgets, contracts, and spending. This role also involves participant engagement, survey administration, qualitative interviews, basic analyses, and preparation of summary reports and tables. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Similar experience, preferably in a research-related field, that may include
- independently manage research including establishing operating design, quality assurance and business operations including comprehensive budget management.
- excellent organizational skills
- strong written and verbal communication skills
- inherent self-motivation
- demonstrated capacity for working independently and engaging in innovative problem-solving,
- ability to work productively in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.
- dedication to research in areas that may include: access to care, quality of cancer care, health equity, family/caregiver support, home- and community-based care, quality of life of individuals diagnosed with cancer or other diseases conditions. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Knowledge in interdisciplinary fields such as Nursing, Data Science, Social Work, Public Health, Psychology, or Sociology.
Candidates with experience managing multi-site or multidisciplinary research projects; interviewing participants with medical diagnoses or chronic illness; conducting literature reviews; grant writing; quantitative data analysis (Excel, R, Stata, or
SAS); building surveys and databases in Qualtrics or REDCap; preparing reports for funders and IRBs; managing research budgets; and contributing to manuscripts are encouraged to apply.
Strong communication skills with patients, caregivers, and clinical staff; ability to engage professionally via phone, Zoom, email, and in person; and demonstrated organization and time management to coordinate multiple projects collaboratively with supervisors and team members. |
