Job Description

The School of Medicine - Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is seeking a highly motivated, engaged, and committed Medical Illustrator who is interested in joining a fast-paced, highly productive team.

Our Orthopaedic service talent teams include: Attending Physicians, Fellow/Resident Physicians, Extender Practitioners, Nurses, ATC/OTCs, Clinical Administrative Coordinators, Research Faculty, Research Technical Teams, and Students. Our clinicians have clinical locations in Columbia, Jefferson City, Boonville, Liberty, and Springfield. The ideal candidate will play an instrumental role in the success of sustaining our department's mission: advance the clinical, research and teaching components of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Missouri.

This position will partner with departmental staff to support the overall culture and advancement of the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute and C3 Orthopaedics Initiative (Comprehensive, Cutting Edge, Caring Culture), which fosters a fast learning and continuously improving organization to further our mission.

Position Overview

The Medical Illustrator collaborates with researchers, physicians, residents, and therapists to advance the quality and effectiveness of visual content used in publications, presentations, grant applications, patient education, and internal communications.

This position is customizable - we aim to align your strengths with the areas where your talents can have the greatest impact.

Key Responsibilities:

* Serve as an in-house resource for medical and scientific illustration, graphic design, and visual communication.

* Interpret medical and scientific information into accurate, visually engaging content.

* Apply advanced techniques and knowledge of anatomy and science to effectively communicate to both health professionals and patients.

* Work independently and manage projects from conception through completion.

* Conduct thorough research to ensure scientific and anatomical accuracy in all visuals.

* Consult with physicians, researchers, editors, and others to plan, develop, and refine illustrations and animations.

* Collaborate with printers, publishers, and web developers to ensure artwork displays correctly for its intended use.

* Serve as videographer and edit videos as needed.

* Create patient- and healthcare professional-facing animations and instructional videos.

* Contribute to social media, website content, and outreach initiatives.

* Ensure all illustrations, animations, and videos meet quality, size, and digital format standards and are completed on schedule.

* Follow MU branding and style guidelines to maintain visual consistency.

* Collaborate with other departments across the MU system on visual communication needs.

* Promote services through presentations, website updates, and the creation of promotional materials.

* Advocate for technical and procedural innovation when appropriate.

* Perform additional duties as assigned.

* Utilizing Adobe CC applications including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier Pro, and After Effects

Shift

Onsite, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Medical Illustration or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.

Certification as a medical illustrator required.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Medical Illustration or equivalent study and experience is preferred.

Credentials: Proficient in using Adobe CC applications including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier Pro, and After Effects is preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $25.32-$39.99 Hourly

Grade: PAT-008

University Title: CERTIFIED MEDICAL ILLUSTRATOR
