Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Process Engineer at our Northshore Mining Company facility in Silver Bay, MN. The primary responsibility of the Process Engineer is to provide technical expertise and guidance to the operations and maintenance team. Work with all employees to optimize performance of the process and monitor the plant processes on a daily basis.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Daily in-depth monitoring of plant processes (trends, communications, hands-on field work and sampling).
  • Initiate and execute business improvement projects using appropriate methodology.
  • Provide technical input and guidance to operations and maintenance teams.
  • Direct activities of sampling program, analyze, and take action on the results.
  • Provide technical input and advice for capital and R&M projects.
  • Work closely with the Process Control Engineers and Control Room Operators to optimize the performance of the process through use of the control system and field instruments.
  • Work with support groups to ensure process is in compliance (environmental, quality, safety).
  • Manage and supervise contractors as needed.
  • Participate in periodic ISO events such as audits, reviews and reports.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be capable of working effectively and safely using a participative management style in a team environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Strong report writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Skilled in team and individual problem-solving techniques.
  • Knowledge of process control, unit operations, statistics and project management.
  • Experience with cost analysis and budgeting.
  • Capable of effectively presenting and drawing meaningful conclusions using data.
  • Computer skills to include the following:
  • Word processing
  • Spreadsheets
  • Databases
  • Prior exposure to data visualization software with a focus on PI and Power BI

Preferred Requirements:

  • 3+ years process experience in an industrial setting.
  • Prior experience in a minerals processing facility.
  • Previous project engineering experience.
  • Capable of constructing dashboards from process data and analyzing process performance using PI or Power BI.
  • Capable of identifying process constraints and recommending solutions to resolve the constraint.
  • Strong equipment troubleshooting skills.
  • Computer skills, AutoCAD, DCS, & PLC knowledge a plus.

The salary range for this role is $80,000 to $105,000. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location and business or organizational need.
