Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs)strategically support the adoption of Alcon products by facilitating evidence generation, scientific exchange, and gathering insights to inform product and market understanding. TheRegional DirectorSurgical Medical Science Liaisons (MSL) is a Fort Worth based member of the Medical Affairs team.This roleis responsible forall field-based medical affairs activitiescomprisinga business regionandleads a team of Medical Science Liaisons. The role reports to theVP of Medical AffairsinGlobalMedical Affairs.This roleis responsible forsignificant business impact including continuedsupportof clinicaldatagenerationto support the portfolio, high scientific presenceat major customer- facing congressesand scientific support of all keysurgicaland glaucoma customers across the region.In addition, the roleis responsible foreffective customer-facing communication, medicalpresentationsand dissemination ofscientific materials across the entire region. Further, the role isdirectly responsiblefor businessperformance elements of theRegion'sExecutiveLeadershipTeam such asscientific Share of voice and competitiveclinical evidence generation.This individual servesasfield coach and lead,toachieveresults and Alcon's key performance indicators, whilemaintainingan enterprise mindset, strategicagilityandbusiness acumen, with the highest integrity.The role is adept at managing internal and external cross functional collaboration and requires executive presence. In this role, a typical day will include:
- Lead and manage a team of regional medical science liaisons across multiplestates/countries.
- Maintaindeep scientific/clinical knowledge of the Alcon Surgicaland glaucoma portfolio
- Develop complexKey Opinion Leader mapping and development strategy and executionplan.
- Lead Alcon'sscientific Share ofVoice and podium presence at key scientific meetings across severalregions/countries.
- Lead clinical intelligenceeffortsacross multiple congresses and scientificmeetings
- Ensure close alignment with Regional Commercial Business and represent clear value of the MSL team
- Ensure close alignment between global franchise and regional business priorities in context of scientificcustomerinteractions.
- Lead customer-generated clinical data gathering and customer research support activities acrossmultipleregions/countries.
- Responsible for operationalobjectivesandmid-termplanning.
- Internal and/or external influencing of key stakeholders to achieve scientificobjectivesaligned withkey performanceindicators.
- Apply negotiation and persuasion skills towards interactions with research sites to ensuretimelycompletion of agreedmilestones.
- Lead and managethe data dissemination/medical presentations execution plan for the MSLs.
- Support collection of scientific field insights and advice seeking surveysby MSLs and lead reporting findings to CRD, Marketing andcommercial leadership.
- Maintainbudget anddepartmentfinancial milestones areachieved(IITs, T&E).
- Create and execute quarterly MSL plans and projectdeliverables.
- Identifydata gapsfor scientific real world data generationbased on ECPinsights
- Interface effectively with all other Alcon functions and departments, including Commercial, QA, Research and Development, Regulatory Affairs, Market Access, HEOR, etc.
- Performs field management visits with individual MSLs to support territory development and promptly address field challenges or issues; the frequency of these meetings will be dependent on operational loads for specific projects.
- Internal Alcon Support - Provide medicalsupport andclinical support, asappropriate, (i.e., disease state and product) to colleagues (e.g.sales reps, Regulatory Affairs colleagues, etc.),or at advisory boards,but not as a substitute for those functional training groups.
- Develop a strong understanding of the future needs of ophthalmic surgeons and supportscientific peer to peereducation in alignment with Alcon strategy.
- Provide non-promotional speaker training to HCPs to support education to the healthcare community about therapies developed and commercialized.
- Assure thoughtful and informed exchange of current medical information and data related to Alcon products and selected areas of therapeutic interest with KOLs..
What You'll Bring to Alcon:
- Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+2 yrs; PhD+1 yr)
- The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
- 5 Years of Relevant Experience
- 3 Years of Demonstrated Leadership
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree: OD/MD Ophthalmology preferred.
- Deep understanding of Alcon's portfolio.
- Ability to represent the MSL team to and their interests to executive leadership.
- Good working knowledge of project and/or program management principles and process excellence concepts.
- Good understanding of medical affairs, including clinical research, product development, investigator-initiated studies, health authority and local regulations.
- Good working knowledge of collaboration platforms (MSOffice 365, SharePoint, etc.) and ERP platforms (SAP, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to use AI-powered assistants (such as Copilot Chat), per company data protection and compliance standards, to generate content, summarize information, and support project management tasks.
- Skilled in creating, reviewing, and delivering clear, accurate presentations and reports for diverse audiences.
