Director of Marketing and Business Development Transformation
Cooley is seeking a Director of Marketing and Business Development Transformation to join the Marketing and Business Development Team. Position summary: The Director of Marketing and Business Development Transformation will work directly with the Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer ("CMBDO") to drive enterprise-wide marketing and business development transformation by building a digital-first, data-driven, customer-centric model that unifies customer experience ("CX") and customer engagement ("CE") to drive growth. This role ensures marketing is modernized across people, processes, technology, and culture. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Position responsibilities: * Design and activate omnichannel programs across the customer lifecycle (acquisition, engagement, retention, advocacy). * Define audience strategy and governance, ensuring responsible and compliant use of first-party data * Shift marketing from fragmented execution to journey-based orchestration aligned to priorities * Coordinate performance marketing as the core growth engine for lead conversion and engagement * Ensure marketing impact on CX is seamless, personalized, and resonant at every touchpoint * Build a CE program that delivers value in every interaction, fostering loyalty and advocacy * Use cross-channel marketing intelligence to unify customer data and map journeys * Embed real-time adaptability to respond dynamically to customer behavior across channels * Deploy AI and machine learning for predictive insights and personalization * Establish dashboards and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) frameworks and track impact * Evolve marketing's operating model to break silos and foster cross-functional collaboration * Champion new ways of working and establish playbooks for journey design and campaign orchestration. * Foster a culture of innovation and infinite learning, equipping marketers with future-ready skills * Serve as direct supervisor and mentor to direct reports; ensure strong leadership for junior support team members via coaching and mentoring of direct reports * Support business professional development and continued educational opportunities * In collaboration with CMBDO and HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events * All other duties as assigned or required Skills and experience: Required: * After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications * Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required * Ability to travel, as required * Bachelor's degree * 10+ years of direct relevant exempt-level experience (e.g., marketing strategy and transformation experience at a management level, preferably in a professional services organization, with proven ability to manage, coach and motivate and work across the entire organization) * 5+ years of management experience in relevant roles and with proven track record of effective leadership * Advanced project management skills and experience developing and deploying wide-scale transformation * Proficient in the application of Marketing and Business development technologies Preferred: * Experience managing a team Competencies: * Proven leadership capabilities, including decisiveness, effective prioritization skills and a results-driven orientation with appropriate sensitivity and concern for people * Proactive, have high energy, and be creative, quick thinking, and comfortable with risk * Strong operational orientation and ability to drive complex, multi-stakeholder projects * Excellent analytical skills * Ability to carry and achieve marketing goals * Strong interpersonal skills with ability to facilitate and solve problems and influence and inspire others * Strong communication, both verbal and written, and presentation skills * Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality of department and/or firm information * Detail-oriented with advanced organization skills Cooley offers a competitive compensation and excellent benefits package and is committed to fair and equitable employment practices. EOE. The expected annual pay range for this position with a full-time schedule is $270,000 - $330,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
