Summary: Kamatics, a division of Kaman, has an exciting opportunity for an Inspector to join our Bloomfield, CT team on 2nd shift. This position will perform basic inspection activities of product, materials, first piece inspection and in-process monitoring as assigned. The position reports to Value Stream Manager/Sr. Team Leader on work assignments to meet production schedules and has a dotted line to report to Quality Assurance Supervisor regarding quality issues.



This is a first shift position. Hours are 6:00 AM - 3:30 PM, this includes one hour of mandatory overtime at the start of shift for a required 45 hour week.


OT pay is 1.5x the hourly rate for all hours in excess of 40 in a week.



Definitions:


The following terms may be used to describe the required level of competency as it pertains to certain skills.



  • Familiarity: the inspector has been exposed to the item and understands its function and/or use in order to know when it's applicable however, may not be able to execute independent of guidance.
  • Proficiency: the inspector can exercise the item correctly, in the appropriate instances, independent of guidance.
  • Mastery: the inspector understands all aspects of the item and is able to confidently train others.



Responsibilities:



  1. Perform visual and dimensional inspection of various mechanical components and assemblies to close tolerance. Perform first piece and in-process inspection in assigned value stream.




  1. Identify defects in surface, dimensional, visual and non-conformities (material, documentation and workmanship) to blueprints and Kamatics' quality standards. Report non-conformance of materials or unusual conditions to Quality Supervisor and cell leader.




  1. Demonstrate mastery using the following basic inspection devices to verify drawing specifications: caliper, micrometer, dial bores, chamfer gage, profilometer.




  1. Demonstrate proficiency using the following advanced inspection device(s) to verify drawing specifications: optical comparator, sunnen gage.




  1. Demonstrate proficiency in measuring the following GD&T items: roundness, parallelism, concentricity, runout, perpendicularity, flatness, total runout.




  1. Demonstrate ability to identify the following GD&T items: true position, material modifiers.



Demonstrate proficiency with CMM operation to inspect product.



  1. Perform all responsibilities within productivity and quality expectations. Follow work procedures.




  1. Maintain records, data and logs as necessary. Create inspection forms such as IMS, first article and other related forms.




  1. Navigate computer files and software to acquire necessary items for inspection, verification, etc.




  1. Provide leadership/training as needed. Ensure that production schedules are met.




  1. Maintain clean and safe work environment. Follow safety and environmental procedures and regulations. Report safety incidents to supervisor.




  1. Make recommendations for improvements to work processes and procedures. Contributes to 5S programs in work area.




  1. Provide a high level of service to all internal and external customers. Contribute to positive teamwork environment.




  1. Perform other duties as assigned. Participate in training/learning other positions. Accomplish related results as needed.



Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:






Education:



High school graduate or GED.







Experience:



Meets all competency requirements. 2-3 years of inspection experience in a manufacturing environment or demonstrates equivalent experience.
