The expected hiring range for this position is: $20.00-$37.50.

Position is typically for a 6 month to 1-year term with the possibility of being extended as appropriate. This position is not eligible for relocation assistance or sponsorship assistance. About the Role: We are looking for a Vehicle and Equipment Mechanic to inspect, repair, and maintain the Laboratory's vehicles or equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation and conformance with federal and state environmental and safety requirements. What your day-to-day as a Vehicle and Equipment Mechanic at Fermilab will look like:
- Performing routine and preventive service/maintenance on Laboratory vehicles or equipment and trailer systems including, but not limited to, engine, ignition, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, heating/cooling, transmission, brake, and lubrication.
- Analyzing reported problems in various systems. Performing tests, diagnosing, and correcting/repairing operating problems. Dismantling and rebuilding as needed.
- Inspecting Laboratory vehicles or equipment to ensure conformance with federal and state environmental and safety requirements.
- Repairing and replacing individual parts as necessary.
- Providing in-field repair services when necessary.
- Maintaining required service/repair documentation and records.
- Maintaining stock of frequently used mechanical and electrical parts and fixtures needed for servicing or repairing of Laboratory vehicles or equipment.
- Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Abiding by and being responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.
Skills and Attributes for Success:
- Two years of automotive technical school with 1+ years of hands-on experience or a high school diploma with 5+ years of experience.
Applicable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Possesses a valid Commercial Driver's License A or B without air brake restriction, as needed in the area of assignment.
- Knowledge of and has mastered the methods, procedures, tools, and equipment used to perform an assigned brake service or inspection task.
- Ability to perform the assigned brake service or inspection by reason of experience, training, or both as follows:
- Has successfully completed an apprenticeship program sponsored by a State, a Canadian Province, a federal agency or a labor union, or a training program approved by a State, Provincial, or Federal agency.
- Or has a state or Canadian province certificate that qualifies the person to perform the assigned brake service or inspection task (including passing the Commercial Driver's License air brake tests in the case of a brake inspection).
- Or Has brake-related training, experience, or a combination totaling at least one year.

- Onsite: This is an onsite role, and the candidate must be able to work from our Batavia office.
