The Athletics Analyst is responsible for a myriad of tasks including but not limited to serving as a key component in the assigned sport or program and providing operational execution for the coaching staff in practice and meeting planning, game plan creation and recruiting operations.

Title: Director of Basketball Intelligence, Men's Basketball

Occupational Summary

This position will serve the Department of Athletics and will report to the Men's Basketball Head Coach to transform data and emerging technologies into actionable insights that sharpen decision-making across player development, opponent scouting, and talent evaluation in accordance with NCAA, ACC Conference and Duke University policies and procedures.

Work Performed

Player Development Insight

* Track individual player growth through film, practice data, and advanced analytical metrics.

* Provide coaches with clear, actionable feedback on strengths, areas for improvement, and progress over time.

* Integrate technology (e.g. wearables, player tracking, shot analytics) to give players NBA-level insight into their performance.

Game Strategy and Competitive Edge

* Lead the integration of insights that shape how Duke plays - style, tempo, shot profile, and lineup optimization.

* Provide the staff with forward-looking trends in basketball strategy (NBA, international, college) that keeps Duke ahead of the curve.

* Innovate around tools and formats to make game prep faster, sharper, and easier to apply in practice.

Recruiting & Talent Evaluation

* Build data-informed models and tools that complement traditional evaluation - helping coaches make smarter, faster decisions on recruits and transfers.

* Provide perspective on prospect "value" (impact potential vs. cost in NIL/salary cap terms).

* Integrate scouting, analytics, and historical comparisons to sharpen roster construction strategy.

Innovation & Leadership

* Build and lead Duke's first dedicated Basketball Intelligence function.

* Establish systems, processes, and culture that ensure analytics and film are embedded into daily decision-making.

* Stay on the cutting edge of new technologies and practices across sports globally - bringing the best ideas into Duke's program.

* Manage and mentor staff (video, analytics, student managers, interns) to elevate the entire department.

* Source and integrate novel and unconventional data sets into the existing basketball intelligence database.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree required.

* Minimum of two (2) years of related experience building predictive models, or working with quantitative data sets in python or R.

* Full-stack development skills are preferred but not required.

* Exceptional organizational and communication skills.

* Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.

* High attention to detail and discretion.

* Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously in a high-stakes environment.



Required Minimum Qualifications
Education

Work generally requires organizational, analytical and communication skills normally acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program.


Experience

Work generally requires a minimum of 1 year of working within a collegiate or high school sport program - preferably college OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF REVELANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
