COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SPECIALIST DIVISION OF YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES CITY OF WORCESTER The Division of Youth Opportunities is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Community Engagement Specialist. The Community Engagement Specialist will focus on fostering positive relationships with local stakeholders to advance the mission and vision of the Division of Youth Opportunities (DYO). Under the direction of the Deputy Director, this position will develop, evaluate, and supervise community engagement initiatives, policies, and goals for the Division of Youth Opportunities (DYO). This position requires a background in communications and positive youth development with a focus on community organizing. The Community Engagement Specialist is charged with developing communications such as a bi-weekly newsletter and partnerships that align with the objectives of DYO. Additional duties include managing the Youth Council which is a civic engagement program for youth. Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply. ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
- Work with community members and partners on initiatives and policies that involve youth, youth workers, and families.
- Attend committee and coalition meetings.
- Manage the Youth Council program, including facilitating weekly meetings, assisting with program events and initiatives, conducting outreach, and recruiting and hiring Youth Councilors.
- Plan and facilitate professional development for the Recreation Worcester program.
- Plan and lead community events.
- Work with vendors and administer quotes/Request for Proposals
- Develop and establish working relationships with community partners.
- Manage and create content for social media, program marketing, and division newsletter.
- Create and manage systems to collect metrics for community engagement.
- Maintain internship opportunities for the DYO team, including assisting with outreach and onboarding of interns.
- Support grant writing efforts.
- Plan and facilitate professional development/training for division staff.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Exceptional leadership skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Ability to work collaboratively with community partners and families
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite; design platforms; Google Docs
- Proficiency with graphic design tools (i.e., Canva, Adobe Reader, iMovie, Photoshop)
- Ability to work some evenings/weekends as required
- Regular onsite attendance is required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Project Management, Youth Development or other related discipline, OR,:
- Any equivalent combination of education, training and three (3) years of relevant experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered in lieu of the above requirement.
- Experience working with youth
- Excellent communication skills
- Valid Driver's License and access to reliable transportation
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Masters degree in Communications, Project Management, Youth Development or other related discipline
- Experience working with local youth serving agencies and other community resources that may serve the division's youth and families
- Experience supervising staff
- Bilingual
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: SALARY RANGE: $26.54 - $32.01 hourly, full-time, with an excellent benefit package.
