Buckeye Partners is currently seeking a Process Engineer II with midstream and refinery experience to join our team!

Role Summary

The Process Engineer II will serve as the technical lead for the design, optimization, troubleshooting and maintenance of Oil & Gas Marine Terminal Equipment, as well as Vapor Control Equipment. This person will support project development efforts for both new equipment and maintenance of existing equipment.

The role is responsible for Process oversight of assigned areas within Corpus Christi including, including Vapor Control Equipment (Dock Safety Units, Vapor Recovery Units, Vapor Combustion Units), Natural Gas Boilers, Atmospheric Storage Tanks, Rail Loading, as well as various transfer and cargo pumps. The role will also provide operations support to vapor control equipment across the Buckeye asset base.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include



  • Technical Lead. Serve as the technical resource for day-to-day operations and troubleshooting of the assigned areas.
  • Optimizing Operations. Monitor the operating parameters of the facility, initiate trending of data, and lead refinement efforts to reduce of operating costs, maintain/improve unit throughput and site reliability.
  • Project Support. Collaborate with Project Management to evaluate, justify and develop project scope, ensuring compliance with technical specifications.
  • Maintenance Project Support. Support the development of scope and planning for maintenance windows and other facility outages.
  • Processes and Procedures. Develop and roll out processes, systems, tools, and procedures to aid in the execution of operational and maintenance work activities.
  • Process Safety Management. Support and participate in MOC, PHA, HAZOP and PSSRs.
  • Compliance. Collaborating with Buckeye HSSE professionals to ensure safe and environmentally sound work practices are being developed and followed in operations and projects.
  • Budget Support. Support development of annual vapor controls maintenance capital (MCAP) budgets. Identify and recommend opportunities for operating efficiencies/cost savings and make recommendations to the Program Lead for implementation.
  • Metrics. Lead tracking of key performance indicators (KPIs) within Buckeye Texas Hub, and support monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting of KPI results.
  • And other duties as assigned.



Position Requirements



  • Degree in Chemical Engineering is preferred. Mechanical Engineering may be considered with relevant processing experience.
  • 5 years experience in Process Engineering.
  • Experience with vapor control systems, emission control equipment, emissions monitoring equipment strongly preferred.
  • Experience in operation of crude oil refining unit operations including flash towers, LPG stabilizers, and atmospheric distillation is desirable.
  • Experience with operation and maintenance of low temperature refrigeration systems and refrigerated LPG storage is desirable.
  • Up to 25% travel

  • Good analytical, process management, research and problem-solving skills.
  • As a service-oriented job, the position requires a great deal of scheduling flexibility and responsiveness.
  • Experienced in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in AVEVA Pi Vision.
  • Skillful in the use of HYSYS Process Simulation Software or similar.
  • Skillful in plant operations, trending, and reporting from Distributive Control Systems (Delta V in particular)
  • Ability to teach/coach others in process and procedures.

  • This role requires the ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • This position requires compliance with all personnel policies.



Physical & Safety Requirements



  • This position consists of office work and field travel. Work outside normal office business hours is required from time to time.
  • General office/control room environment will be typical. However, this role will require spending considerable portions of time in the operating plant. The ability to spend significant portions of working time standing, walking, climbing stairs, and working in the outdoor environment year-around will be required. Working at high elevations and tight confined spaces.
  • This person must meet medical criteria established by OSHA for emergency response.
