Buckeye Partners is currently seeking a Pipeline System Controller IV - Relief with strong experience and leadership qualities related to pipeline operation in the Oil & Gas Industry to join our team!

Role Summary:

The Pipeline System Controller IV - Relief role is responsible for supporting Control Center operations, assisting with training, procedure development and adherence to ensure Operational Excellence and Regulatory Compliance. The role also includes operating pipeline systems, covering for control center leadership, conducting meetings and participating in point roles.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include:




  • Provide Console coverage. Provide coverage on a minimum of 2 System desks for; scheduled vacations, paid time off, training & coaching sessions and any other required activities or as needed.



  • Remote Pipeline Operation. Ensure safe pipeline operation, including operating within defined safety limits and recognition and response to Abnormal Operation Conditions.



  • Schedule Adherence. Ensuring timely deliveries of product, optimize the scheduling process by coordinating with customers and other Buckeye support personnel.



  • SCADA Software. Monitoring and controlling system operations via SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) software.



  • Leak Detection. Analyzing the Leakwarn leak detection system and react to abnormal situations in a proper manner.



  • Training. Support and administer training including annual, reoccurring and refresher training for new Controller trainees and existing controllers as required.



  • Console Lead & CC Leadership support. Support CC Leadership by attending project and other meetings, providing operation insight, documenting action items, report out to leadership as required and complete or facilitate assigned tasks.



  • Point Role. Plan, organize, communicate, address and safely execute work related to the following areas: Alarm Management, Pipeline Project Integration, Manual updates, Training & MOC's, Control Room Management, Safety and Inventory Balance/Reports.



  • Procedure Development. Review and make recommendations on Buckeye systems operation standards and procedures against regulatory requirements, industry best practices and developing technologies.



  • Volume Accounting. Accurately document volumes associated with pipeline/plant movements, load meter data, update and maintain reports/documentation as required.



  • Other duties may be assigned.





Position Requirements:




  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.



  • To be eligible for PSC IV, one must be cross trained on 2 System Consoles, have at least an OT performance rating, have zero operational issues, must be able to work modified schedules to provide console coverage for other Controllers.



  • Individuals must have demonstrated leadership abilities including being adaptable, self-motivated and accountable to recognize and solve issues, take decisive action to prevent escalation to problems.

  • None required



  • Valid driver's license





Other Skills, Attributes and Abilities:




  • Candidates must work 12 hour rotating shifts including holidays and be amenable to frequent and short notice changes to their work schedule



  • Incumbents must possess good communication skills (written and verbal) and exhibit a positive attitude towards the team and work environment



  • The person should have the ability to manage multiple tasks at once and be flexible and adaptable to changes in priority.



  • Quantitative and analytical skills are desired qualities for this position.



  • 5% to 10% travel to other Control Centers and field locations may be required.





Essential Functions:



  • This position requires the ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and or/quantitative productivity standards.
  • This role requires the ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • This position requires compliance with all personnel policies.



Physical & Safety Requirements:




  • Must be able to visually monitor several computer screens in a control room environment for twelve (12) hour shifts. Must maintain a high level of mental alertness and be capable of quickly processing and reacting to incoming information from the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System. Response time is very critical.



  • Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, process work rapidly, set priorities, work under pressure, and follow through with assigned tasks with limited supervision.



  • The person should be dependable and flexible to accommodate unscheduled changes in work routine. This person must be capable of working 12-hour shifts. Working overtime (Over 40 hours), weekends, and holidays is required. The person should have good visual acuity, good color perception, good verbal communication skills, and the ability to remain seated for 95% of the 12-hour shift. Opportunities to stand and walk away from the console are limited.
