Supervisor - Substation Maintenance

Job Purpose

The Supervisor of Electric Utility Operations is responsible for overseeing the safe, reliable, and efficient construction, operation, and maintenance of the Company's electric distribution, network, and substation systems. This role provides leadership to field crews and contractors, ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and supports customer satisfaction and operational excellence across multiple domains.

Key Responsibilities

Note: This list is not all-inclusive.

  • Direct and manage construction, maintenance, and repair activities across electric distribution, network, and substation systems.

  • Lead emergency response efforts, including outage restoration and unplanned events.

  • Supervise and schedule daily and weekly work for internal crews and contractors.

  • Provide coaching, training, and performance evaluations to build a high-performing workforce.

  • Champion a culture of safety and ensure adherence to company policies, environmental standards, and regulatory codes.

  • Administer and interpret collective bargaining agreements and resolve labor issues.

  • Communicate effectively with customers, contractors, and community stakeholders to resolve service issues and ensure satisfaction.

  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and reports to support operational goals and long-term asset management.

  • Coordinate with internal departments to align resources, workflows, and priorities.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of electric utility systems including overhead/underground distribution, network, and substations.

  • Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, maps, and project plans.

  • Proficient in CMMS, Microsoft Office, and workforce management systems (e.g., KloudGin).

  • Familiarity with relay protection schemes, retrofitting equipment, and troubleshooting electric systems.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Education

  • Associate's degree in electrical or mechanical technology or related field preferred; high school diploma with technical/vocational training acceptable.

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in electric utility construction, operation, and maintenance.

  • Proven leadership experience supervising union and/or contractor personnel.

  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license or commercial driver's license.
