Department (OC) WADS DEHS - Inorganic & Nuclear ChemistryJob Description: Responsibilities Health Research, Inc. is seeking a Research Scientist II to work within the Wadsworth Center's Division of Environmental Health Sciences. One of the Division's goals is to assess human exposure to toxic chemicals (e.g., heavy metals, PFAS, pesticides, PAHs) that are present in the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink. The Research Scientist II will support the Trace Elements laboratory in the generation of high-quality clinical data to support multiple ongoing biomonitoring studies. The incumbent will operate inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometers (ICP-MS) following NYS CLEP-approved methodologies analyzing human blood, serum, and urine for toxic metals. The incumbent will oversee the day-to-day operation and maintenance of multiple ICP-MS instruments which support blood and urine biomonitoring capabilities. The incumbent will provide technical support and training to junior laboratory staff and new junior staff members as appropriate. The incumbent will provide high quality ICP-MS validation data which supports the development of new methods. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology and three years of research experience; OR a master's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology and one year of research experience. Degrees must be from an accredited institution. This position will require the incumbent will meet all Federal requirements for staff who perform clinical testing, including the educational requirements. These requirements can be found here: https://hri.box.com/s/v6shwh9z0w05glegrv3fofxzxt4co8nz Preferred Qualifications Hands-on experience in a New York State-accredited laboratory running dilute-and-shoot methods for clinical samples by ICP-MS. Familiarization with either PerkinElmer or Thermo Scientific ICP-MS instrument control software is desirable. Experience developing macros in MS Excel. Conditions of Employment Temporary grant funded position expected to last through 12/31/2025. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required. Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Travel, up to 10% of the time, will be required. The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire.
