This position is especially critical during evening hours, when strong leadership is essential to maintain operational flow, address emerging needs, and support special events that extend beyond standard daytime operations.

Serving as the evening work leader for the custodial team, the Lead Custodian provides peer-level guidance and hands-on support under the direction and in collaboration with the Facilities/Environmental Services Supervisor. The position ensures that custodial standards are upheld across all Aquarium spaces, helping to sustain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for guests, staff, and marine life alike.

The Lead Custodian plays a critical role in event support, helping to ensure that spaces are prepared, maintained, and restored as needed before, during, and after public and private functions.

Although this position does not include formal supervisory authority, it is entrusted with reinforcing custodial protocols, modeling best practices, and providing constructive feedback and safety observations to the Supervisor to promote accountability and continuous improvement.

Success in this role requires advanced custodial skills, a high level of independence and judgment, and the ability to communicate clearly, respectfully, and efficiently with team members and leadership.
