About the Team

Like every team at OpenAI, the Marketing team contributes to our broader mission of ensuring responsible and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence. With that aim in mind, we are responsible for developing and executing strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and usage for OpenAI's products and platform amongst our core audiences. Our focus extends beyond just promoting product features; we aim to provide valuable insights and resources that help our users make the most out of AI technologies.

About the Role

We're looking for our first Vertical Marketing hire-someone who can bridge customer insight, product understanding, and storytelling. This role is about building the foundation for how OpenAI connects with industries going through massive change, specifically education and public sector.

You'll bring a product marketing mindset to verticals. That means learning from customers, translating those insights into sharp narratives, and creating the content and campaigns that move markets. It also means working across product, sales, solutions, and executives to scale adoption, improve customer experience, and build long-term trust.

This role is based in San Francisco with a hybrid model of three days in the office. We offer relocation support if you're moving to the Bay Area.

In this role, you will:

  • Define go-to-market strategy by focus industries. Build clear plans for education and goernment, with tailored strategies for each audience.

  • Own messaging and positioning. Develop narratives that resonate with decision-makers and practitioners, and help specific audiences understand the value of building with AI.

  • Create high-impact content. Build playbooks, customer stories, executive decks, and vertical campaigns that cut through noise.

  • Be the customer's voice. Gather insights directly from the field, embed with vertical pods, and translate feedback into better programs and products.

  • Drive impact. Launch vertical-specific initiatives-executive dinners, events, sponsorships-that generate interest and build credibility.

  • Work across the business. Partner with PMM, solutions, GTM, and sales to make sure vertical context shows up in everything we do.

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Are fluent in product marketing: you know how to take complex products and make them resonate in the language of the customer.

  • Love creating content that works at the highest level-executive speeches, thought leadership, case studies, sales enablement.

  • Have a bias for cross-functional work and can build trust with product managers, solution architects, account teams, and executives.

  • Are comfortable moving between strategy and execution: one day framing the narrative for a new vertical, the next building the deck that lands it.

  • Care deeply about customers: you start with their needs, their language, and their goals, then work backward into programs and messaging.
