Overview

Under the general supervision of the Sr. Director Infrastructure and Operations, the Network Engineer has primary responsibility for integration, deployment, advanced systems support & maintenance, troubleshooting complex networking and database issues.

Job Responsibilities:

    Directly support designated key users with a premium level effort. Provide flexibility, immediate response, and personalized training for the key user group.
  • Aid in maintaining, upgrading and administering the company's network, including hardware and software devices and applications.
  • Maintains a strong knowledge of core infrastructure concepts including but not limited to: Layer 2 & 3 protocols, IPSec and SSL VPN, Firewalls, RADIUS/LDAP/Certificate authentication, SD-WAN, and NAT.
  • Be proficient in supporting Cisco Nexus equipment running VPC.
  • Security log reporting, firewall rule updates, new DMZ segments and support of security gateway for web-based applications.
  • Administers Network Directories, including maintaining users, updating system and documenting procedures.
  • Works with others in the Information Technology Department so that solutions and knowledge are shared easily and promptly. Interface with vendors to expedite solutions to problems.
  • Maintains network security (ex. firewall policy reviews, FortiGuard updates, IPS/AV engine updates)
  • Performs analysis, diagnostics and testing of new and upgraded software. Isolates and corrects application errors in a timely manner.
  • Maximize performance by troubleshooting networks/servers/application errors. In conjunction with the help desk and with users, isolates problems from symptoms, determines solutions or alternatives, develops and implements resolutions. If the problem is user error, work with support personnel to improve user instructions for better understanding.
  • Ensure that all patches and/or corrective software have been fully tested following current standards and procedures.
  • Assists in installation of new releases by coordinating with vendors and other team members. Performs initial testing before releasing version to help desk personnel and other users in all environments. Corrects any discovered defects.
  • Always ensures the integrity of the system including data integrity when deploying, maintaining or enhancing networks and applications.
  • Maintenance of group processes, documentation, communication and procedures.
  • Prepares requirements, design, program specifications and time schedules for assigned projects based on department standards.
  • Must be willing to be accessible during off hours to monitor network appliances, servers, and applications. Act where appropriate and be willing to work some evenings and weekends during planned maintenance.
  • Works with ISPs to obtain quotes, coordinate circuit installs and maintain integrity of circuit health.
  • Maintenance of internal and external DNS records and certificates.
  • Works with 3rd party vendor for job-site deployment of firewalls, switches, and APs.

Education & Years of Experience:

  • Four-year undergraduate degree in computer-related field or equivalent work experience plus a minimum of five years' experience providing hands-on support, application installation, and/or Network Administration in a mixed Microsoft, Cisco, UNIX, FortiOS environment
  • Preferred certifications:Cisco, Microsoft, VMware, Fortinet, Oracle OCI

To thrive in this role, you'll need:

  • Prior experience with standardizing and upgrading new and existing applications in a large-scale multi-office setting including an understanding of distribution and resolving application conflicts
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite and other Windows-based products applied in a Construction firm environment.
  • Must have extensive work experience in Document Management Systems such as SharePoint are preferred.
  • Necessary to understand Server hardware configurations, multi-tier client/server architectures, and LAN and WAN infrastructure components.
  • Solid experience in all aspects of the systems development lifecycle and be comfortable leading projects through the entire lifecycle.

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
