How You Will Contribute:

As a Senior Accountant at Ciena, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting for designated cost centers. Reporting to the Finance Group, you will be responsible for recording accruals, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, analyzing expense fluctuations, and delivering insightful monthly reports to Management. Your expertise in GAAP accounting rules will allow you to assess the propriety of accounting processes, collaborate effectively across departments, and support the Finance Group with additional projects as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and record monthly purchase order and other accrual journal entries for assigned cost centers.

  • Identify, obtain relevant support, and prepare journal entries for prepaid expenses and other items, as necessary.

  • Work closely with departmental teams to ensure accuracy of purchase orders and their related accrual processes.

  • Review and record cost center allocations.

  • Analyze monthly fluctuations in responsible cost centers and assess the propriety of accounting.

  • Prepare, deliver, and obtain approval for monthly cost center reports, communicating results to Management.

  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations.

  • Analyze monthly and quarterly trends in professional services and other accounts by vendor, investigating significant or unusual items.

  • Support international accounting and FP&A teams as necessary.

  • Provide assistance to internal and external auditors.

  • Participate in other Finance Group projects as required.

The Must Haves:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.

  • 5-7 years of experience, including public accounting and experience in a large multi-national organization.

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Oracle experience preferred.

  • Dependable and team-oriented.

Assets:

  • CPA designation.

  • Experience in cost accounting processes.

  • Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively.

Pay Range:
The salary range for this role in USA is $77, 000 - $100, 000

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
