Position Description:

The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine's Department of Internal Medicine is recruiting multiple faculty members whose research efforts bridge fundamental scientific discoveries with translational applications in human health including clinical trials. Candidates will be recruited at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor (clinical, tenure, or research track) commensurate with academic record and experience. Successful applicants will be expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program and have research interests related one or more of the divisions of Internal Medicine.

The goal of this cluster hire is to increase the number of faculty engaged in basic and translational research and to increase cross-disciplinary research programs in the Department of Internal Medicine. The cluster hire will specifically focus on recruiting candidates with the following expertise, particularly as they relate to areas of cardiology, oncology, immunology, and pulmonary:





  • Stem cell biology/pluripotent stem cells
  • Metabolism
  • Inflammation and autoimmunity
  • Tissue remodeling and fibrosis
  • Cardiac/Vascular biology




Recruited faculty will have opportunities to collaborate with other faculty in colleges across the university as well as with research groups in the College of Medicine (e.g., the Abboud Cardiovascular Research Center, Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center, Holden Cancer Center, Iowa Neuroscience Institute, Institute for Clinical and Translational Science). In addition, recruited faculty will have access to research opportunities at the Iowa City Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Education Requirement:


  • MD, PhD or equivalent


Required Qualifications:


  • Candidates must be eligible for appointment to academic rank of Assistant Professor at minimum.
  • For MD/DO candidates, the successful candidate should have clinical expertise in in their area of specialty.
  • Candidates must have the potential to contribute to the department's mission through the mentoring and teaching of medical students, residents, fellows, other graduate-level trainees, and junior faculty.


Certifications:


  • Individuals holding an MD degree or equivalent must be board certified or board eligible in internal medicine and/or their subspecialty


Desirable Qualifications:


  • Extramural funding including NIH, VHA, CDC, private foundations, or industry sponsors.
  • Evidence of scientific contributions with a distinctive (as appropriate for rank) scholarly record and the ability to conduct collaborative, multidisciplinary work.
