Overview: Recovery Support Specialist, Community Based
Recovery Support Specialist will be responsible for empowering individuals to set recovery goals, and take ownership of their recovery through a community that promotes personal growth, personal empowerment, responsibility, and greater independence. Individuals employed in this program must have the ability to self-identify as a person in recovery from mental illness and committed to his/her own recovery in order to help others through their recovery. Individuals will utilize resources within the community to assist individuals as needed.
Potential activities within the Community role:
This role is primarily community based and will focus on assisting individuals with connecting to community resources while fostering a sense of belonging. The recovery support specialist will act as a role model in a variety of ways including but not limited to ;
- Locating resources for necessities such as clothing or food.
- Accompanying individuals to medical appointments, helping them to advocate their needs within the healthcare system
Working to connect individuals to vital resources within the community
Core Responsibilities Include:
- Identifying needs and activities that promote recovery and resilience;
- Supporting participants to make informed choices and take responsibility for their own recovery;
- Mentoring participants to help them utilize community resources;
- Advocate on behalf of participants in navigating Mental health and other systems;
- Mental participants to build and maintain community living skills;
- Supporting participants efforts to find and retain employment, education, volunteer work, and other meaningful activities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Willingness to work with people who are attempting to recover from a serious and persistent mental illness
- Ability to work as a team player;
- Ability to tolerate ambiguity, uncertainty, and change;
- Ability to navigate electronic health records;
- Demonstrated above average computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- This position requires a thorough understanding of trauma-informed care practices to effectively carry out their roles. This knowledge is essential for providing optimal support and services to individuals in a manner that is sensitive, empathetic, and effective.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent;
- Minimum of 21 years of age;
- CRSS Certification preferred;
- A valid driver's license, reliable means of transportation, and proof of automobile insurance coverage are required.
Salary Range: $37,440-$45,760 per year ($18.00 - $22.00 per hour)
