Summary:

The Tool & Die Technician will support the design and fabrication of new production tooling and gauges. They will be responsible for repairing and replacing tooling, fixtures, and gauges to ensure the manufacturing team operates efficiently. Additionally, they will machine small production, and prototype runs of complete parts as needed to meet production goals. The Tool & Die Technician will also lead and assist in the release of tooling and gauges to the production team. This position involves communicating with co-workers regarding production tooling and tool shop needs, maintaining a safe, organized, and clean work environment, and adhering to our Quality Standards.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  1. Adhere to all company rules, quality standards, and safety policies (OSHA).
  2. Interpret 2D and 3D drawings to create new parts as needed.
  3. Assist in creating and maintaining setup/instruction sheets for tooling.
  4. Develop and assist in designing fixtures and gauges.
  5. Design, modify, and repair tooling and gauges, fabricate new or repair existing tooling.
  6. Document new designs and replacement parts through hand sketches or 2D/3D models as needed.
  7. Assist with part quoting estimates if required.
  8. Manage all insert and tooling inventory in the tool shop; recommend and specify needed inserts and tooling.
  9. Complete special assignments as requested.
  10. Follow all safety rules.
  11. Perform all tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
  12. Read and interpret blueprints.
  13. Use gauges and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements.
  14. Set up, operate, and troubleshoot lathes and mills and grinding machines independently; must be self-sufficient.
  15. Recognize, deploy, and properly use fixtures and tooling.
  16. Perform daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery.
  17. Assist in organizing and maintaining the machine shop work environment.
  18. Provide constant feedback and input into process improvement within the department.
  19. Utilize and abide by ISO requirements and safety procedures.
  20. Comply with all quality policies, specifications, regulations, and instructions.
  21. Communicate thoughts and ideas, both verbally and in writing, to co-workers and management.
  22. Attend team meetings and actively participate by providing meaningful input.
  23. Be flexible with time and schedule to ensure availability to customers or the company as needed.
  24. Communicate honestly, professionally, and respectfully with others, demonstrating effective listening skills.

  5. Minimum of 3 years in a professional machine shop workplace
  6. Working knowledge of mill, lathe and grinding machines. CNC mills and routers are a plus.
  7. Working knowledge of Master-Cam or similar CAD/CAM software is a plus but not mandatory for this position.
  8. Demonstrated ability to interpret technical drawings
  9. Experience using calipers, micrometers, and other machine shop measuring instruments
  10. Familiar with computers and computer technology
  11. Creative, thinks outside of the box
  12. Strong technical aptitude. Has the ability to visualize fabrication steps and think through a complete manufacturing process
  13. Must be able to communicate effectively with other team members to explain ideas and concepts
  14. Organized, able to maintain clean and orderly work area
  15. Drives at root cause to solve problems
  16. Team player

Supervisory Responsibility

This role does not have any supervisory responsibility

Required Education/Skills

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Completion of Tool and Die apprenticeship training

Preferred Education/Skill

  1. Journeyman's card
  2. Minimum seven years of tool and die experience

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee may have to lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

This is a full-time position on 1st shift.
