Job Description

PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for the design, and development of forgings, tooling, and fixtures required to satisfy the customers' product specifications. It is the Product Design Engineer's responsibility to ensure these processes are cost effective and within the manufacturing capabilities of the company. Furthermore, the Product Design Engineer will function as a member of a cross-functional team of Product Engineers, and Metallurgists as part of cost reduction initiatives to improve the company's overall competitiveness in the aerospace and energy markets. He/She must have a high mechanical aptitude and be capable of providing engineered solutions within the manufacturing processes. The applicant must be motivated, detail oriented, analytical and team oriented.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • 3D/2D design of forging products in accordance with customer provided specifications.
  • 3D/2D design of mechanically sound forging tooling and HT/Machining Fixtures.
  • Perform 3D/2D forging simulations (DEFORM and ForgeNXT) to access forging process design and work with the Product Engineer to fine tune the processes
  • Support MUV (Material Usage Variance) and first pass yield initiatives to aid the team in reducing costs and increasing productivity
  • Candidate could also be cross-trained to be back-up SMARTEAM administrator

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Engineering degree required; BS Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability with CATIA V5 or comparable 3D CAD software
  • Broad knowledge of mechanical, industrial, materials science engineering along with forging technology.
  • Forging Design experience is very desirable, but not required
  • FEA skills are desired by not required
  • Knowledge of Programming in Visual Basic and/or Python or similar would be desirable but not required.
