Job Description:

The Sr. Manager, Industrial Hygiene & Toxicology role leads and manages industrial hygiene and toxicology initiatives that ensure workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and product integrity across laboratory and manufacturing settings. This position plays a critical role in assessing and mitigating risks associated with chemical and biological agents, supporting product development, and driving continuous improvement in safety practices and toxicological evaluations.

Industrial Hygiene & Safety Oversight

  • Conduct comprehensive workplace assessments to identify chemical, biological, and physical hazards.
  • Develop and implement exposure-monitoring programs for airborne contaminants, noise, and other environmental factors.
  • Design and implement chemical and biological storage systems to prevent reactivity and ensure safety.
  • Developing safety guidelines:Recommending and helping establish SOPs and policies to ensure the safe handling, use, and disposal of chemicals and products.

Toxicology & Risk Assessment

  • Conduct toxicological assessments of pharmaceutical products and ingredients.
  • Research and assess the potential risks posed by a wide range of substances and agents.
  • Study the adverse effects of chemicals, physical, or biological agents on living organisms; investigate how substances interact with biological systems to cause harm and help develop safeguards for employee health.
  • Analyzing and evaluating data:Interpreting experimental results to assess a substance's potential toxicity and create safety profiles.
  • Assist with environmental compliance audits and regulatory filings.

Regulatory Compliance & Quality Systems

  • Ensure adherence to OSHA, EPA, FDA, ICH, GLP, cGMP, GDP, EU, and BPOG standards.
  • Support internal audits and contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives.

Project & Program Management

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Manufacturing, EH&S, and Technical Services.
  • Author technical reports, SOPs, and training modules.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (MSc or higher) in Toxicology, Biodefense, Biotechnology, or related field required
  • 10+ years of experience in industrial hygiene, toxicology, or pharmaceutical safety roles required
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks and laboratory safety practices required
  • Experience with biologics, sterile injectable, and infectious disease agents required
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects required
  • Excellent technical writing, data analysis, and communication skills desired
  • Experience supporting government or military biodefense programs desired
  • Familiarity with CDER/CBER/CVM biologics approval processes desired
  • Hands-on experience with assay development, validation, and tech transfer desired
  • Proficiency in LIMS and SharePoint desired
  • Advanced vocational/specialized knowledge required
  • Project Management experience required
  • Microsoft Office experience required
  • Occasional lifting of equipment, samples, or materials (up to 25 lbs.) required
  • Frequent standing and walking during laboratory inspections or site assessments required
  • Manual dexterity required for handling lab instruments, PPE, and documentation.
  • Visual acuity for reading safety data sheets, monitoring instruments, and analyzing data required
  • Ability to wear PPE including lab coats, gloves, respirators, and eye protection for extended periods required
  • Occasional travel to laboratory or manufacturing sites, including remote or high-containment facilities required

Shift: Weekday Days, Monday-Friday

Compensation & Benefits:

This is an on-site, full-time position located in Spokane, WA.

  • Hiring Wage: $118,500.00 - $173,800 annually depending on experience, with opportunity for growth, promotion and annual raises. Midpoint and above is reserved for employees who have longevity with Jubilant HollisterStier and consistently exhibit outstanding performance over a period of time in the role
