Group Manager - Slotting (Distribution) Your Role on our team:

The Group Manager - Slotting is responsible for leading the strategic design, optimization, and execution of warehouse slotting across a large-scale distribution center (or network of DCs). This role ensures product placement supports efficiency, accuracy, and scalability while aligning with operational goals, labor standards, and automation strategies. The Group Manager oversees a team of analysts and/or supervisors and collaborates cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and IT to deliver measurable improvements in productivity, cost reduction, and service levels.

You'll be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:
  • Slotting Strategy & Execution
    • Lead the development, execution, and continuous improvement of slotting strategies to optimize pick paths, travel distance, and replenishment efficiency.
    • Direct seasonal, promotional, and new product re-slotting initiatives with minimal disruption to daily operations.
    • Ensure slotting decisions are data-driven, leveraging WMS tools, velocity analysis, and engineering standards.
  • Operational Partnership
    • Collaborate with Inbound, Outbound, Inventory Control, and Continuous Improvement teams to align slotting with operational goals.
    • Partner with automation/engineering teams to integrate slotting logic with automated storage, retrieval systems, and robotics.
  • Leadership & Team Development
    • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Slotting Analysts, Supervisors, or Engineers.
    • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and innovation within the team.
  • Performance Management
    • Establish and monitor key slotting KPIs: travel distance per pick, replenishment frequency, congestion hotspots, pick density, and labor cost-per-unit.
    • Analyze data trends and proactively adjust slotting strategies to support throughput, accuracy, and cost targets.
  • Project Management & Change Leadership
    • Oversee complex re-slotting projects, ensuring timelines, budget, and service levels are met.
    • Communicate slotting plans effectively to all stakeholders and secure operational buy-in.
Key Competencies
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to design slotting strategies that balance short-term efficiency with long-term scalability.
  • Analytical Rigor: Skilled in ABC analysis, velocity profiling, cube utilization, and data mining techniques to drive slotting decisions.
  • Technical Acumen: Strong knowledge of WMS/LMS slotting modules, automation integration, and slotting software tools (OptiSlot, SmartSlot, Blue Yonder, Oracle, Manhattan).
  • Collaboration & Influence: Demonstrates ability to partner across functions, influence without authority, and gain alignment with operations leaders.
  • Project & Change Management: Proven ability to lead large-scale slotting initiatives, manage competing priorities, and drive adoption of new processes.
  • Leadership & Talent Development: Coaches and develops teams, builds future leaders, and fosters a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Results Orientation: Focused on achieving measurable outcomes in labor productivity, cost reduction, and service-level improvement.
The TOOLS you'll bring with you:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related field; Master's preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in distribution, supply chain, or logistics with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated success leading slotting, warehouse layout, or engineering initiatives in a high-volume distribution environment.
  • Strong experience with WMS/LMS systems, slotting optimization tools, and data analytics.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
