About the Role We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Coding Specialist II to support automation initiatives within our business office. This is a contract role with an initial term of 6-9 months, with the potential for extension based on project needs and performance.
As a Coding Specialist II, you will be responsible for reviewing inpatient and outpatient medical records, assigning accurate codes, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and payer requirements. This role requires a strong understanding of coding guidelines, modifiers, and payer-specific rules, as well as the ability to work collaboratively across teams. **CANDIDATES MUST RESIDE IN WI OR IA TO BE CONSIDERED** Key Responsibilities * Review, abstract, and analyze inpatient and outpatient medical records. * Assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes to the highest level of specificity. * Apply modifiers, CCI edits, LCD/NCD rules, and other payer-specific guidelines. * Resolve coding-related issues using EPIC Charge Review Work Queues. * Collaborate with Clinical Auditors to identify improvement opportunities and provide provider guidance. * Maintain compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies. * Participate in team meetings and stay informed via internal communications. * Consistently meet productivity and quality benchmarks (95% accuracy). * Perform charge entry and resolve coding-related denials. * Support data collection and analysis for training and reporting purposes. Qualifications * Minimum 3 years of professional medical coding experience - specifically within primary care, family medicine, palliative care, neuro/psych, behavioral health, urgent care and nursing home for candidate 1 and cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery and vascular for candidate 2 * High School Diploma or GED required. * Active certification: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC required. * Proficiency in coding complex procedural cases. * Experience with EPIC Experience Level * Intermediate Why Join Us?
