This position can be located at any Midwest, Florida OR Eastern Carolinas Duke Energy location that has vacancy. The exact location will be determined at the time of offer based on business needs.

Position Summary

The Lead Operational Excellence role is a strategic individual contributor for the Supply Chain and Real Estate portfolio, which will lead or support cross-jurisdictional and cross-functional projects, programs, processes (improvement/development), operations training, safety, and quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) efforts. The role is part of the team that will lead projects that are highly complex and have significant levels of risk, both operationally and safety. This position is also responsible for field observations and executing Improvement efforts.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic support of the follow programs within Supply Chain and Real Estate

  • Safety strategy, safety governance, safety improvement, and safety program oversight for Supply Chain & Real Estate Operations

  • Innovative process governance and redesign impacting end-to-end lifecycle for supply chain operations

  • Support Operational Excellence Program for Supply Chain and Real Estate field operations, including overseeing the development and governance for Standard Operating Procedures and work-methods

  • Ensure operational excellence and effectiveness throughout Supply Chain & Real Estate

  • Training Development & Oversight for all Craft employees

  • Establish and Maintain service levels and communications for stakeholders

  • Stakeholders for projects will range from impacted front-line employees to senior level leadership to ensure safe and efficient operations

  • Ensure all impacted stakeholders are constantly aware and up to speed on all projects, potential impacts, and cross-organizational alignment needed

  • Service Level Agreement - Define Strategy & ongoing Governance framework for Supply Chain relationships with all key business partners, including Transmission, Distribution, and Generation.

  • Assures excellence in project planning and project execution

  • Leads and supports large-scale projects span multiple jurisdictions, multiple functions, multiple domains across Supply Chain Operations.

  • Leads Business Continuity strategy and planning during major system outages and emergency response.

  • Create and/or facilitate prioritization of strategic initiatives and cost-savings opportunity assessments through the application of Continuous Improvement tools and KT and other analytical tools to ensure the effective operations.

  • Provide operational benchmark/ metric support for associated business partner/ organization as needed

  • Generate and deliver presentations and reports of strategic initiatives/ related work product to the organizational leadership team and others as deemed necessary. Acquire and maintain subject matter training/ expertise in key decision application tools. Serve on key initiatives committees, such as needed.

Required/Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree

  • 7 years related work experience

  • In lieu of Bachelor's degree(s) AND 7 year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 11 year(s) related work experience

Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree

  • In addition to desired degree, 10 years related work experience

  • Project Management Professional and/or Professional Engineer and/or Six Sigma

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent decision making and analytical skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other departments on potentially conflicting goals to the benefit of all involved.

  • Mastery of Six Sigma, KT or other continuous improvement tools

  • Supply Chain Operations Experience

Working Conditions
  • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.

  • Position requires routine travel (15-30%) through the jurisdictions and frequent interface with supervisors, managers, directors, GMs, and VPs to gain insight into issues, regional gaps, and provide program status updates.
