Project Engineer - HSS

  Salary Range: $82,000 - $122,304 
 
Position Summary
 
We are seeking a Project Engineer - HSS (Heavy Structural/Steel Services) to join the onsite engineering team for a hyper-scale data center project near Amarillo, Texas. This role is critical in overseeing shop drawing reviews, coordinating structural and CSA scopes, and supporting quality and schedule compliance throughout the project lifecycle. The HSS Project Engineer will work closely with design professionals, clients, subcontractors, craftspeople, and affiliate teams to address complex coordination issues and ensure that safety, quality, and constructability standards are upheld. This is a fully onsite role with active involvement in daily field activities and cross-functional collaboration. 
 
Key Responsibilities
 
  
 
 Champion onsite quality efforts while collaborating with project stakeholders 
 
 Review and manage submittals, shop drawings, and construction models for accuracy and constructability 
 
 Support project leadership in daily schedule management, including pour break updates and sequencing coordination 
 
 Work closely with superintendents, project managers, and field teams to manage day-to-day construction activities 
 
 Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers on shop drawings, delivery scheduling, and compliance with project requirements (concrete, rebar, metals, and formwork) 
 
 Provide technical advising to field crews; resolve design and constructability issues in real time 
 
 Support BIM/VDC coordination, clash detection, and model issue resolution with engineers and third-party detailers 
 
 Conduct quality control inspections, safety walks, and site observation reports; document and track corrective actions 
 
 Prepare and maintain logs for submittal schedules, approval timelines, and quality plans 
 
 Assist with estimating support, quantity tracking, and weekly claims 
 
 Collaborate with safety and leadership teams to align goals for quality, production, and schedule performance 
  
 
 
Qualifications
 
Professional Experience & Education 
 
  
 
 Minimum 2 years of construction QA/QC or field engineering experience, preferably with structural or heavy civil trades 
 
 Experience supporting large-scale construction involving structural, CSA, and MEP coordination 
 
 Strong understanding of quality assurance/control practices and safety standards (OSHA) 
 
 High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil/Structural Engineering, or related field preferred 
  
 
 
Technical Skills 
 
  
 
 Familiarity with BIM coordination and VDC processes 
 
 Proficiency in reviewing submittals, shop drawings, and construction models 
 
 Competence in estimating support and quantity tracking 
 
 Experience with project management and scheduling tools (Prolog, Procore, E-Builder, MS Project, Primavera P6, Bluebeam, Navisworks)

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
 
  
 
 Combination of office and active field work in varying weather conditions 
 
 Ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and stairs; inspect confined or elevated spaces 
 
 Must be able to lift or carry up to 50 pounds and move materials short distances 
 
 Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, and crouching to review work onsite 
 
 Ability to work in proximity to loud equipment; use of hearing protection as needed 
 
 Must hold a valid driver's license for site access and travel requirements 
 
 Flexibility to work extended or off-shift hours as project schedules demand
