We are seeking a Director of Accounting to join our team at Marcus Theatres where we're not just offering jobs-we're handing out backstage passes to something bigger. As the Director of Accounting at Marcus Theatres, you will lead a dynamic and dedicated team made up of 10+ accounting professionals at various levels and be responsible for full-scope accounting operations across our 78 theatre locations. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Accounting, this pivotal leadership role will serve as the primary technical accounting expert, providing guidance on complex accounting standards and ensuring the highest level of accuracy and compliance. This opportunity is based out of our corporate office in downtown Milwaukee. Provide strategic oversight and hands-on leadership for all accounting processes, including month-end close, variance analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial statement preparation, while ensuring timely, accurate reporting and full Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance. Serve as the go-to resource for all technical accounting inquiries, including interpretation and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), ASC (Accounting Standards Codification) standards, and other relevant regulatory guidance. Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals fostering a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and high performance. Drive comprehensive and continuous process improvement initiatives to modernize and streamline accounting workflows. Proactively identify risks and opportunities within accounting processes and financial data, leveraging technology and best practices to increase efficiency and reduce the financial close cycle. Develop Theatres Accounting plan for the effective integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into more effective processes Collaborate cross-functionally with theatre operations, shared services, executive leadership, and other key stakeholders to ensure alignment and support for organizational goals. Serve as the primary liaison for both external and internal audits within the theatres division, coordinating audit support and ensuring timely resolution of audit findings. Oversee the sales and use tax reporting and remittance process by reviewing returns and ensuring timely submission. Utilize ERP and CPM systems (PeopleSoft and OneStream), to optimize reporting and analytical capabilities of the organization. Support the budgeting process by collaborating closely with the finance team, providing detailed accounting insights and accurate inputs for key line items.
What We're Looking For:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; advanced degree preferred; CPA Required. Minimum of 6 years in public accounting, or a longer combination of public accounting and industry experience. Proven leadership experience managing an accounting team of a publicly traded company. Deep technical accounting expertise with demonstrated ability to interpret and apply GAAP and relevant ASC guidance. Experience with ASC 606: Revenue from Contracts with Customers, ASC842: Leases, and ASC360: Property, Plant, and Equipment (Impairment) preferred. Hands-on, process-driven mindset with a strong track record of implementing successful accounting process improvements. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of translating technical concepts to non-accounting stakeholders. Advanced Excel skills and proficient with enterprise accounting software (PeopleSoft and OneStream preferred). Strong analytical abilities with a problem-solving orientation and attention to detail. Ability to thrive in an evolving environment while maintaining high standards and meeting deadlines. Ability to travel as required (<10%). Ability to operate independently and in a team structure. Ability to work 5 days per week in our corporate offices.
