POSITION SUMMARY: The Quality Specialist performs a variety of quality control tests/inspections and/or standard microbiological, chemical, physical or sensory testing and assays on products, materials, components, etc. at various stages of the production process to ensure compliance with quality standards. Manages finished product release, net contents and sensory program. Responsibilities will include recording statistical data, analyzing production data to verify compliance or determine deviation from existing standards. Works closely with the Quality Team to help identify, solve and prevent problems affecting quality and food safety. This will be primarily a day shift position with the need to flex for coverage 2-3 days per week. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: QUALITY
- Person shall follow and carry out company Quality Policy on all required Nestle Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), quality and food safety requirements
- Escalate quality or food safety findings or incidents to management
- Ensures that a high quality of products, services, housekeeping, and hygiene standards are maintained and improved in designated areas.
- Ensures compliance for FSSC 22000 and ISO 9001 while driving continuous improvement for Quality metrics/Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in their area of responsibility.
- Reviews all Nestle Quality standards on an annual basis to ensure compliance. Notates any noncompliance and develops action plans for the factory to be compliant.
- Supports Improvement initiatives (e.g. consumer complaints, product defect reduction) with the factory. Works with raw and packaging vendors to eliminate material losses.
- Assist, advises, and trains employees on the Nestle quality standards.
- Reviews and updates factory policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) in compliance to Nestle standards.
- Serves as the Document Control Coordinator for Quality, responsibilities include:
Supports compliance by ensuring effective use of the factory's document control program. Stores documents per retention standards, arranges pickup, and retrieves documents as necessary. OPERATIONAL TASKS Product Release
- Tracks, releases, or holds finished product from production for retail and institutional sale.
- Reports out detailed information regarding the products that are held and released.
- Reports on performance indicator measures (i.e. KPIs, PPIs, APIs).
- Supports traceability exercises, product trace, and recall procedures.
- Supports root cause analysis and provides information on deposition decisions for held product.
Systems
- Responsible for learning, implementing, teaching, maintenance and reporting data from the SAP Quality Management module
- Responsible for holding product and rework documentation review.
- Responsible for supporting the factory food allergen management program and product coding maintenance
Manufacturing Support
- Supports production in decisions related to quality and food safety
- Audits GMPs, procedures and paperwork on the production floor
- Conducts coaching and training to employees
- Identifies gaps in procedures or processes
- Serves as a supporting member of the factory Internal Audit Team
- Participates in and/or lead problem solving and continuous improvement
- Attends operational review meetings
- Review consumer alerts and direct follow-up activities of the alerts
- Trains operators on different Quality systems (e.g., net contents and sensory) to ensure compliance.
- Maintain consumer complaint awareness for the production lines
- Supports the Food Safety Team
- Executes daily review of the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) documentation.
- Conducts special projects as assigned.
- Execute daily Behavior Based Quality observations
- Responsible for follow-up activities driven by Corrective Preventative Action Reports (CPAR) from Internal Audit Team and Third-Party Audits
- Supporting member of the factory Internal Audit Team
- Able to work flexible hours and able to cover off shifts when needed.
Laboratory Support
- Interprets data and reports on trend/data analysis to appropriate personnel.
- Organizes laboratory records and files, summarizes data, and prepares reports for use by management.
- Performs daily equipment maintenance, ordering, stock control, stock record entry, reporting, etc.
- Supports administration, training, and execution of test methods.
- Ensures laboratory and quality records follow the factory Quality Monitoring Scheme (QMS), which includes proper storage and retrieval.
SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory and Nestle guidelines pertaining to safety, health, and environmental.
- Be part of the culture change towards behavioral safety improvement.
REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required (e.g. GED)
EXPERIENCE:
- 2-3 years manufacturing and/. or laboratory (1-3 years) experience in the food industry.
- Experience with continuous improvement programs, such as Total Performance Management (TPM), preferred.
SKILLS:
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to handle multiple assignments.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Must be able to perform in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
- Must have good mathematical (basic statistical skills highly desired), problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with computer systems, personal computers, and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Office, etc.).
- Proficiency in SAP/GLOBE systems is preferred.
