University Housing serves as a unit within

The primary purpose of the
General Shops Member position is to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled manual tasks in the areas of
HVAC maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. The position also provides general labor support to the Facilities Unit within University Housing.
Tasks include:
- Performing preventative maintenance tasks throughout the residence halls.
- Assisting residential areas with pick up and deliveries.
- Properly disposing of unwanted materials as needed.
- Assisting residential areas with maintenance projects.
- Maintaining condition of department vehicles, tools, supplies, and shop environment.
- Assisting with retrieval and closing of work orders.

Minimum Experience/Education |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. |
Department Required Skills |
- General knowledge of the principles and techniques of HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting, and plumbing is required.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Skill in the use of trade tools, and physical strength sufficient to move relatively heavy objects and to work at heavy manual tasks for considerable periods of time.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds frequently and up to 90 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations.
