The School of Arts and Sciences (
SAS) is the largest academic unit at Rutgers University and the center of the undergraduate experience on the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus and is comprised of 41 academic departments spanning the liberal arts.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Specialist for the School of Arts and Sciences - Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Supports the Director of Finance and Operations in monitoring, processing, and reviewing all transactional activities related to human resources, commitment accounting, and fiscal processes for the Social and Behavioral Sciences Divisional Business unit including but not limited to the Centers for African Studies, African Studies Association, Chinese Studies, Cognitive Science (RuCCS), European Studies, Global Asias, Latin American Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, NJ Center for Civic Education, Rutgers Advanced Institute for Critical Caribbean Studies (RAICCS), and South Asian Studies (multiple locations) and other academic units as assigned.
- Provides assistance for divisional projects and initiatives, including occasional support for business operations within other SBS units.
- Assists Program Coordinators in organizing scholarly meetings and conferences, which may occasionally require an adjusted workweek, including night or weekend hours.
- Serves as the primary approver for purchasing, reimbursements, and HCM/payroll transactions, the Business Specialist ensures financial documents and reports align with the mission, vision, and goals of the Centers, the School of Arts and Sciences, and the broader business unit objectives.
- Performs routine and non-routine tasks within established parameters, with periodic review of work output by a supervisor.
- Ensures effective management of internal/external grants by collaborating with departments, centers, and other grant management operations within SAS.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience in a financial/accounting function, good communication skills, and computer literacy.

- Professional expertise in generally accepted accounting principles and practices (GAAP), along with a solid understanding and application of accounting concepts, theories, principles, practices, terminology, and methodologies.
- Strong customer service skills are essential, as the incumbent is expected to provide excellent support to both internal and external clients.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience in a college or university environment with budget development and management, grant development, tracking, and reporting experience.
- Additionally, familiarity with Rutgers online systems or similar platforms used in higher education is highly desirable.
