Job Summary & Key Accountabilities
The Consumer Banker Vice President is responsible for originating and managing consumer (75%) and mortgage (25%) loans. Your expertise in analyzing financial information, evaluating creditworthiness, and guiding customers through the lending process will be instrumental in driving the success of both our clients and the bank. This position will collaborate with colleagues across different departments, including underwriting, operations, and management, to ensure seamless and efficient loan processing and exceptional customer service.
- Work closely with clients to understand their financial needs and goals, offering advice on consumer and mortgage lending products.
- Conduct interviews with loan applicants, analyze creditworthiness, and evaluate collateral.
- Make independent credit decisions within delegated authority; prepare recommendations for larger or exception requests.
- Ensure thorough, accurate, and timely loan documentation to meet compliance and audit standards.
- Monitor loan portfolio performance, promptly address delinquencies, and manage recoveries and charge-offs.
- Maintain strong risk management practices to safeguard credit quality and minimize losses.
- Serve as a trusted financial partner by providing guidance on consumer and mortgage lending solutions.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with customers, referral sources, and community partners to generate new lending opportunities.
- Represent the Bank at community functions to strengthen brand presence and support business development.
- Identify and act upon opportunities to cross-sell additional banking products and services, such as deposit accounts, investment options, and insurance, to enhance the overall financial well-being of clients.
- Stay current with all applicable state and federal lending regulations; ensure compliance in all loan activities.
- Partner with internal teams-Retail, Credit, Loan Processing, and Operations-to ensure seamless loan processing and excellent customer service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Key Competency Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or related field (Master's degree a plus) preferred, or equivalent experience
- 5-7 years of progressive experience in consumer and/or mortgage lending.
- Active NMLS license strongly desired (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
- Strong knowledge of consumer and mortgage lending products, underwriting, and risk analysis.
- Ability to make sound, independent credit decisions in a timely manner.
- Proficiency in using loan origination software and banking systems.
- Builds and sustains strong customer relationships with a consultative, solutions-oriented approach.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to explain complex financial concepts clearly.
- Strong understanding of compliance requirements for consumer and mortgage lending.
- Operates independently, manages workload efficiently, and consistently delivers results.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and loan origination systems.
