MaineHealth is a $4.5 billion non-for-profit health system focused on improving patient and community health through high-quality, affordable care, education and research. As Maine's largest healthcare organization, MaineHealth includes 11 hospitals, 24,000 care team members and over 2,500 providers, spanning from North Conway, New Hampshire to the central coast of Maine. The flagship hospital, Maine Medical Center Portland, is a 740-bed academic hospital affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine, offering nationally recognized residency and fellowship programs.

MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Neurology is the largest neurology practice in the state of Maine. The team consists of 23 neurologists (including five pediatric neurologists), 9 advanced practice providers, a neuropsychologist, behavioral health counseling and social work. In 2019, Maine Medical Center established a neurology residency program which recently expanded to four residents per year. The Neurology group has been the premiere site for neurology care in Maine since its inception in 1988 and offers a modern outpatient clinical site for general and sub-specialty neurological care inclusive of an on-site MRI and neurodiagnostic lab. The team works closely with MaineHealth's Neuroscience Service Line to bring exceptional care to every stage of neurological health across the health system.

Reporting to MaineHealth's Southern Region CMO, the Chair will lead the faculty and staff in delivering the highest quality of care within a collaborative clinical learning environment, supporting the Neurology residency and academic programs. The Chair will be responsible for planning, managing and implementing programs that promote the professional and scholarly growth of the department's faculty. They will possess the expertise to effectively guide providers, ensuring performance consistently meets the optimal scope of practice.

The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader committed to enhancing patient-centered care and faculty development. They will bring experience in leading and managing a robust neurology team in an academic medical center environment and foster accountability that focuses on ensuring the highest quality and safety standards for neurological health while adhering to evidence-based best practices. This individual will demonstrate a collaborative leadership style and possess significant expertise in navigating complex hospital environments. They should have a proven track record of recruiting and developing faculty and staff and possess the leadership experience, both operational and strategic, necessary to help grow neurology services across the health system. The Chair will also support and promote educational programs and research initiatives within the department. The Chair of Neurology is expected to focus most of their professional effort on administrative tasks but will also have a part-time clinical practice and/or research program in the area of their primary expertise.

Essential qualifications include an MD, DO or equivalent medical degree, board certification in neurology, eligibility for medical licensure in Maine and credentials for an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine.
