SUMMARY

This position is responsible for analysis of current and projected material requirements to support ship repair and modernization projects. Review work specifications and drawing list of materials for long-lead time identification and for estimating cost. Collate materials by commodity for the purpose of soliciting competitive pricing from suppliers. Using tools available, price all materials not competitively bid for incorporation into estimates and bids. Identify and notify supervisor of any price, lead times or other risk or concern areas relating to material that could affect execution performance. Reports to the Supervisor of Repair Estimating Operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES



  • Ability to read, understand and interpret requirements on specifications, drawings and technical references.
  • Knowledge of shipboard component, system, and materials.
  • Computer skills; search engines, MS excel, Keyboarding, MS Word.
  • Ability to identify/recognize critical, cost driver and long lead time material components.
  • Ability to work with suppliers to solicit price and availability of materials.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.



SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS



  • High school graduate, plus two years of directly related Materials analysis experience.
  • Knowledge of ship repair materials.
  • Knowledge of shipboard nomenclature. Experience and knowledge of shipboard systems, equipment, spaces, configuration, as well as material costs necessary to perform repairs, upgrades, alterations and maintenance to same.
  • Make decision concerning interpretation of work item specifications. Write inquiries to customers, as required, for clarification of requirements.
  • Track on-going work and repairs for feedback of material estimating effort using all cost reports and purchase order data available, plus on-site observations and direct interface with key production personnel.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to climb on and around ships, including stairs, ladders, masts, and scaffolding. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to dust, welding/burning fumes, and smoke. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Performs assigned tasks in accordance with schedule and budget commitments. Completes all tasks with high quality.

PAY SCALE

$61,100- $90,800

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
