National Grid is hiring a Senior Construction Planner, Capital Project Planning for Massachusetts. This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to one of our locations Job Purpose
The Senior Construction Planner plays a pivotal role in driving the successful execution of major capital construction projects by taking full ownership of schedule development and near-term resource planning. Reporting to the Director of Transmission Construction, you will be the central force behind building and maintaining detailed project schedules, ensuring that the right resources are in the right places at the right times. In this role, you'll not only manage active construction schedules, but also help shape long-term plans for future projects, balancing workforce availability and operational constraints. You'll collaborate across departments and with external constructors to create integrated, optimized schedules that align with strategic goals and operational priorities. This position offers a unique opportunity to directly impact the efficiency and success of big project work across Massachusetts - bringing clarity, coordination, and confidence to every step of the planning and execution process. Key Accountabilities
* Accountable for the successful delivery of Major Projects resourced through internal Transmission Line Service crews, including reporting and tracking requirements * Develop & manage schedules for active projects using Primavera P6 or equivalent scheduling tools * Update and maintain project schedules in alignment with monthly reporting cycles, ensuring data accuracy and consistency * Collaborate with internal stakeholders, external contractors to align schedules, monitor project progress, and address potential conflicts * Work closely with construction and outage planners, as well as supervisors, to ensure schedules are practical, executable, and reflective of current project realities * Integrate and update schedule data in internal systems to maintain a reliable source of project information * Support workforce planning and resource allocation efforts to facilitate efficient execution of construction and maintenance activities * Track and report earned value management metrics (SPI & CPI) for major projects, ensuring adherence to performance goals * Provide input to strategic scheduling and resource planning for future-year projects, working across departments to align long-term execution strategies Qualifications
* Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, or related field, or equivalent work experience * Proficiency in scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project * Strong skills in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables), Word, and PowerPoint * Experience in utility, construction, or related industries preferred * Knowledge of transmission line projects is preferred * Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills * Valid driver's license with ability to travel across the National Grid service territory in Massachusetts to support project field work More Information Salary - $106,000 - $125,000 This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
