Description

Employees in this series are capable of interacting with patients, referring providers as well as hospitals and other facilities by phone. This series will be responsible for various call center operations such as entering demographic information, insurance and referrals, etc as well as various scheduler functions such as scheduling new patient appointments, rescheduling appointments, canceling appointments, etc.


Examples of Duties

100% Phone Responsibilities

  1. Respond to all incoming and interoffice calls and escorts' callers to the appropriate party.
  1. Schedule new and return patient appointments for providers per established guidelines. Cancel and reschedule patient appointments.
  1. Respond to paging requests and patches callers together as required.
  1. Report equipment failures to appropriate staff.
  1. Access centralized database information and updated call schedule to enable accurate and efficient routing of calls.
  1. Register patients via telephone to obtain demographic information and direct them to the appropriate services, policies and/or procedures of the medical practice.
  1. Provide feedback to departments regarding accessibility of personnel.
  1. Access and communication of patient information via Electronic Medical Record
  1. Ability to learn and operate web based systems
  1. Update patient demographics in the Centricity Business system when appropriate
  1. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Any one or any combination totaling one (1) year (12 months), from the categories below:
    1. Work experience comparable to that performed at the Medical Office Assistant level or in other positions of comparable responsibility.
    2. Work experience in a health care facility such as a doctor's, dentist's, or hospital's office; which involved record keeping, working with the public, direct patient contact, answering telephones, and working with medical terminology.
    3. Graduation from an accredited medical secretarial or paramedical program, such as nursing assistant, medical assistant, or medical secretary.
