SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Vital Energy is looking for a Director, Health, Safety, Environmental, Regulatory and Air Quality (HSER, AQ) to join our innovative team. The Director, HSER, AQ is responsible for continuously monitoring and adapting safety procedures and operations to ensure a safe and fully compliant work environment for all employees. This role will also manage the coordination, preparation, and submission of permits, reports, and disclosures for all state and federal regulatory agencies in which Vital conducts business. The Director, HSER, AQ will report directly to the SVP & Chief Operating Officer.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops, implements, and administers health, safety, environmental, regulatory and air quality programs to ensure compliance with all regulatory and corporate policies.
  • Provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skills training, emergency preparedness, proper job instructions, hazardous material disposal procedures and the use of protective equipment.
  • Reinforces efforts that support Process Safety programs and hazard identification through design and operation processes, with continual monitoring to mitigate risks.
  • Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the cause of accidents and generate required reporting.
  • Implements and oversees initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards.
  • Conducts post-accident investigations and prepares reports identifying possible accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and senior management.
  • Hires, manages, mentors and coaches EHSR, Air Quality staff.
  • Prepares and manages EHSR, Air Quality departmental budget.
  • Acts as a member of the leadership team and participates in strategic management decisions.
  • Supports corporate environmental regulatory compliance activities, policies, procedures, and training programs
  • Manages the preparation, development, and submission of information to environmental regulatory agencies as required in a timely manner.
  • Manages environmental due diligence reviews and assessments regarding acquisitions, divestitures, and other operating properties.
  • Supports environmental emergency response and contingency planning and implementation.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • BS Degree required, preferably in safety related field.
  • A minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in the environmental, health, safety, regulatory and air quality required; energy industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience required.
  • Must possess excellent PC skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills required to work effectively across the organization.
  • Strong safety leadership, commitment, and advocacy.
  • Thorough understanding of Texas and Oklahoma oil and gas regulations and processes.
  • Ability to coordinate with other departments to secure the information required for regulatory filings.
  • Strong time management skills.

COMPENSATION:

Salary is commensurate with experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position is primarily an office position where work is normally performed in a climate-controlled environment. Travel to the well site is required. When in the field locations, work is normally performed outdoors where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, fumes and gases is common. Noise level is moderate to loud and includes sounds of construction, equipment operations, and trucks and like equipment. Job hazards include working in normal, light, and heavy completion activities and working around pressured equipment and under all weather conditions. May work in areas where H2S is present. Mostwork is normally performed in a climate-controlled environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work normally requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate computer keyboard at moderate skill level. Work involves sitting, standing and walking, in addition standing and walking at field operational sites. Regional travel required 25% of time, including (infrequent) trips to headquarters in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
