Brief Summary of Work for this Position

  • Assist with planning and coordination of career events (e.g., Career Carnival, Education Networking & Job Fair), support implementation of other career fairs and events
  • Serve in Career Center rotation presentations to UNI 101, 201 and HON 110
  • Promote Career Center services and encourage early student engagement and gather feedback to improve programming
  • Student Facing services: Appointments, Express, Workshops, Classroom Presentations

    • Counsel students individually and in groups with liaison academic majors and career sectors, and provide targeted services to students.
    • Provide career guidance to students (e.g., resume reviews, job search tips, mock interviews)
    • Deliver workshops and classroom presentations on career topics



  • Assist in collection and preparation of reports on events and student participation
  • Support communication efforts with faculty, staff, and students

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Three years of directly related post-graduate related work experience includes positions in a collegiate career center, or a closely related function.
  • Experience providing leadership within a staff team, and in the development of programs, services, events, and related initiatives


Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or related field
  • Experience with the application of career development theory and career assessment tools.
  • Previous experience in University Career Center, Talent Acquisition, or other college-student career and job recruitment
  • Completion of NACE Career Coaching Intensive, designation as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) by the National Board of Certified Counselors, or similar equivalency
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and organizational skills. Extensive presentation experience with small and large groups of students, parents, faculty, staff, employers, and the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize program assessment instruments and electronic career and employment systems.
  • Ability to work independently and creatively develop programs, solve problems, resolve differences, and contribute effectively to the Career Center team.
  • Experience in collaborative efforts with faculty members, other academic and student affairs departments, employers, and other external groups to inform, support and promote relevant career services and programs.

Please note, this is a temporary position. The length of the assignment will be based on department need with the possibility of continuation. Temporary assignments cannot exceed 11 consecutive months without a full 31-day break from employment. Employees in temporary positions are not considered permanent state employees and do not earn leave. Temporary employees are subject to the Affordable Care Act guidelines.
