Role Snapshot

The Benefits and Compensation Specialist provides operational and analytical support to both the Benefits Leader and the Compensation Leader. This dual-support role helps ensure the effective administration and communication of employee benefits and compensation programs. The specialist collaborates cross-functionally within HR and with external vendors to deliver accurate, compliant, and timely support aligned to business and employee needs.

Salary Range

$65,000 - $80,000

The base pay offered for this position may vary within the posted range based on your job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Work Location



  • This position will be Hybrid, having the regional availability to come in our Office two days a week. Our office location: WPS Corporate Center Building - 1717 W. Broadway in Madison, WI.
  • Onsite work will be tailored for team cohesion, strategy, planning, and collaboration.


In this role you will:



  • Support the Benefits Leader with the administration of employee benefit programs, including:

    • Planning, communication, and logistics for annual benefits open enrollment.
    • Assist with reviewing, managing, and approving life event requests.
    • Support the development and distribution of employee benefits education materials.
    • Conduct new hire onboarding presentations related to benefits.
    • Assist with routine monthly tasks, including benefit invoice tracking, enrollment audits and COBRA age-out communications.
    • Complete benefits verification paperwork for employees as needed.
    • Support the coordination and administration of wellness initiatives and programs.


  • Support the Compensation Leader with the administration of employee compensation programs, including:

    • Assist in maintaining and updating salary structures, compensation plans, and incentive programs.
    • Conduct market research and salary benchmarking to ensure competitive compensation packages.
    • Support the administration of employee salary changes, promotions, bonuses, and merit increases.
    • Respond to employee inquiries related to compensation policies, salary structure, and pay administration.
    • Support market pricing and job evaluation needs.
    • Assist in preparing data and materials for compensation cycles and incentive planning.


  • Compile, validate, and analyze compensation and benefits data for reporting and compliance.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 3 or more years of experience in HR, benefits, compensation, or total rewards-related roles.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of employee benefits and compensation practices.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with HRIS platforms
  • Strong analytical, organizational and documentation abilities.
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications



  • CEBS or CCP certification or coursework.
