About the Job

This position will be responsible for performing RNA extractions from animal tissues, submitting samples to the UM Genomics Core for QC and sequencing, and evaluating QC results. Regular meetings with the PI to discuss progress are required.

* Perform RNA extractions - 85%
* Sample submission - 5%
* Evaluation of QC results - 5%
* Meetings with PI - 5%

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
At least 3 months of experience extracting nucleic acids
Experience interpreting Agilent Tapestation (QC) results (or similar)

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience extracting RNA, preferably using Qiagen RNeasy kits
Experience with phenol:chloroform extraction protocols
Experience working with the UM Genomics Core
Basic understanding of RNAseq workflow

About the Department

Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior (EEB) faculty teach undergraduate classes, advise graduate students, and conduct research in the areas of ecology, evolution, and behavior. Check out the Faculty and research section to learn more about them and their intriguing research interests.

EEB is part of the College of Biological Sciences at the University of Minnesota and is one of the University's most highly-ranked units. The department is located in the Ecology Building on the St. Paul campus, but also has two major field stations where students and faculty conduct field research. Many of the research collections of the Bell Museum are also located in the Ecology Building, and the department is an affiliated department of the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20-$23 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
